New Play Toy!!! (Firearm)

New Play Toy!!! (Firearm)

Today I strolled into a local gunshop and much to my amazement I found a Steyr M40 (NIB) for $399.00. I’d always been interested in the Steyr ever since it came out specifically the smaller “s” series and more so the S357.

Well I just could not pass up such a good deal, I’ve seen this gun in shops down south, (GA, TN, SC) for as much as $519.00, so when I saw the $399.00 I had to have it.

Bought a pistol blanket for her, four boxes of Speer plinking ammo and some .40 cal cleaning supplies (bore brush, pads etc…) as this is my first 40.

Shot it already and WOW!!!

Accurate, once you get use to the “trapezoid” sites, trigger is short, very short and crisp, nice break around 5 pounds.

It is a very tight gun, first time I tried to apply the manual safety I couldn’t, took three or four tries now it moves just as the manual says it should, with two fingers.

I will most likely buy a tac-lite for this and a .357 barrel, and (pray) once the AWB goes away I’ll get me a few “normal capacity” mags for it (12 rounds) and then she’ll make a rather nice beside the bed gun.

It’s so nice to be able to buy a gun in a gun friendly state!

I just saw the latest TOMB RAIDER MOVIE and it was a TON of fun. Lara Croft uses what looks to me to be a pair of H&K SOCOM pistols with all the bells and whistles including a flared mag well and a strange reloading accessory that's just gotta be "HOLLYWOOD" and not for real. But I like the concept. Something like a preset mag holder that holds the mag with the rounds pointing out in a horizontal position. You pull the weapon back so that your mag well seats over the replacement mag and it automatically inserts so all you have to do is flip the slide release....yeah...well ya gotta see the movie and watch for it, I guess.

Seems that all the "good guys" use the H&K line of various models and all the "BAD GUYS" are using either Glocks or Sigs. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Still it was great escapism.

Anybody here have any pics of the Para C6, C7 and TAC-4? I'm trying to decide which for my next gun. My best bud has the C6 and swears by it. I'm taken by the TAC-4 but it's pretty big to conceal here in south Florida, so I'm thinkin' somethin' in between. Any suggestions? Gotta be an Para LDA, though.

Your AK is a fine weapon no doubt, I just could never own any WARSAW PACT originated weapon...they've killed a lot of my buddies over the years. There's too much personal grief for me associated with them...for me to own one myself. But, if I had to, I'd sure pick one up if the...ahem...situation called for it!

Advice: Always get the best possible quality and personal ergonomics, often with practice. IBefore a gunfight in that biochemical sweet feel of fear before an encounter of the .45 kind, the best possible is the cheapest memory you'll ever have.

Skip lunches, carpool, or sleep w/o the HVAC. Buy only the best and PRACTICE.

Buy one gun a year or one gun a week. The DNC Politburo knows that November 2004 is coming fast and that may be their last real chance in their lifetime.

Nice gun, but I think I would prefer the new Beretta Storm in .45 ACP.

Really cool looking.

That would be this guy right here...

SIG 239 in 357SIG caliber..............give it a look see. I think if you liked that you'll love the SIG 239 !!

I've got a 239 in 9mm and love it. 357 SIG is a great caliber, and I'm considering getting another 239 in that caliber.

OK, I just have to tell you this story.

A friend was using his overtime money to buy various guns in groups. At one time he bought hunting rifles and then he sold them for blackpowder rifles. He then bought WWII German firearms with the intention of keeping them because he knew they would eventually go up in price.

He went to see Schindler's List soon after that.

He got it into his head that somehow by owning those guns he was emulating the Nazis or at least admiring them. He sold all of the German guns.

He did get me thinking about how foolish he was but he was correct about the historical value of owning these guns. I started to shop around for an EVIL GERMAN LUGER.

I finally found a factory refinished one for sale and it was a good price. I finally had my EVIL GERMAN LUGER.

A week after buying it, I decided to look at the serial number and record it into my book.

The serial number is 666.

I like my USP9. Old, accurate, and never fails to fire.

I did learn something from the SIG rep regarding the 239. I like to buy the 40 Short & Wimpy Caliber or 357SIG caliber and then a spare barrel for the "other caliber". This gives me one frame/slide with 2 calibers and use the same magazine. Well this works in all high capacity magazine handguns but it seems that a single stack magazine such as the SIG 239 "must" have the specific caliber magazine to go with the specific caliber barrel/caliber.

When I bought the 40 and an extra barrel in 357 I used the 40 mags originally and had a couple of failure to feed stoppages. After speaking to the SIG rep he stated that if all you intend to do is plink or target with the swap setup it is fine but the geometry is just slightly different in the 40 and 357 caliber magazines and will cause stoppages in that configuration.

He stated that if I intended to use the sidarm in a self defense or duty manner that I must have a 40 magazine for the 40 caliber and 357 mag for the 357SIG caliber to be factory reliable.

Again this only applies to the "single stack" magazines not the handguns that use a high capacity double column magazine. Just a bit of info I got on the matter.......the hard way.....:o)

Stay safe !!

FNH has just released a version of their Five'n Seven pistola that is Individual Officer Mode or IOM is what they call it if my memory serves me right. Even for individual officers they have reduced the mag capacity to 10 rounds. I've played with one in a factory rep dog and pony show on our range that was select fire and it is actually pretty nice. The 5.7x28 caliber round even uses an SS109 style bullet. The prime reason alledgedly for this in a sub gun and sidearm was to punch a vest or for internal security folks to have a capacity to stop some harder targets when the are only armed with a such versus a full up battle rifle.

I know a lot of deputies that keep either a 41 or 44 mag as a backup/vehicle gun stuffed into a center console holster in their cruisers. I think the FNH/IOM would be a possible replacement for such "punching vehicle bodies" use.

I remain a fan of big bore at slow speeds for stopping human soft skin agressors versus the hypervelocity formulas for up close and personal but as a backup for specific needs I think this is a kewl tewl.........

Stay Safe FSE !

I have always suspected the double column magazines are more reliable. Partly because the most reliable guns I know of, the Sig 226/228 and the Beretta model 92 variations plus the Browning Hi-power are all right at the top of the heap as far as going bang every time you pull the trigger.

I once had a Sig 225 which was basically reliable but would jam with a few loads. The same loads were perfect in the 226.

I know there are plenty of reliable guns with single column mags but I would bet the reason those Sigs interchange in double space mags but not in single is due to the mag design as much as anything.

I used to have a Russian Tokarev pistol with a serial number from the 1930s.

I wondered if it had been used by the NKVD to execute kneeling political prisoners with the traditional shot to the neck.

It creeped me out.

I had a lot of guns once. I had an Uzi, an AR-15, a SKS, a FN-FAL, a Mossberg camper combo, a Tec-9 (horrible gun), a makarov, 5 glocks, a few tossaway guns, an M1-Garand.

Once upon a time.

Now all I have is one single, lousy little Glock.

Agree....the rep stated such was just the geometry of the magazines. I have a glock 23 set up with the 40/357 and one caliber hicap mag and nooooo problems. When I deployed to remote regions with no logistical train I carried a HiPower with no regrets or worries. As I stated above I like the ...begins with "four" caliber.... with a 800 to 1000 FPS abilities for self defense thus I have always used a 1911A1 in some flavor.

But I have responsibilities to uphold as a proud member of the gun of the month club so I like to tell the girl friday I'm into investmentment buying and the market is poor so I buy low and have to hold on to em till the price goes up.........:o) A few gun safes later I don't think she's buying my explaination or reasoning any more.

BTW I have a 228 also and have noticed they aren't around too many times. They getting rare now ? (obilgatory, look dear I'm researching value question :o)

Stay Safe !!

I had pretty much the same situation after a deee-vorce also. Never again. Got my ducks and wimmin in a row these days ..........:o) You'll be back in good standing in the gun of the month club soon enough. I spoke to the club president and s/he said your dues are waived till yer back up to speed. Stick in there and remember that Liberty gun safes are cheaper by the dozen !!!!

Stay Safe !
