I don't think so. We already have thousands of qualified natural-born Americans to choose from in any given election and generation that will never get the opportunity to hold elective office. Just check out the primaries. Not a good reason to change the constitution for such a frivolous reason. Why needlessly worry ourselves with foreign-born candidates who might have different loyalties and agendas.

We are having enough problems with the loyalties of our own.

in the meantime, they would change the "citizenship" definition to fit who they are looking at.

JOINT RESOLUTION

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to make eligible for the Office of President a person who has been a United States citizen for 20 years.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled (two-thirds of each House concurring therein), That the following article is proposed as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States:

`Article--

`SECTION 1. A person who is a citizen of the United States, who has been for 20 years a citizen of the United States, and who is otherwise eligible to the Office of President, is not ineligible to that Office by reason of not being a native born citizen of the United States.

`SECTION 2. This article shall not take effect unless it has been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States not later than 7 years from the date of its submission to the States by the Congress.'.

City to pay up to $2,000 to get visa for new employee

New Castle City Council will pay an immigration attorney $220 per hour to secure a long-term work visa for the city's new assistant zoning officer. Maria Veronica Elias, hired by unanimous vote of council on Feb. 27, is a native of Argentina and is not an American citizen. Council agreed last night to pay up to $2,000 to attorney Mark Knapp of Pittsburgh to assist in filing the necessary paperwork for her employment visa.

Elias is expected to begin work for the city on Aug. 4. The job pays $25,000 per year plus benefits.

Not that I care - I wouldn't take the job if offered...

But you all need to remember that there are plenty of us out there who were born outside this country, to parents who were natural-born, but where one or the other happened to be serving in the armed forces, or may have been traveling for other reasons.

In my case, my father was serving in the army in Stuttgart, Germany and I was born in the hospital there.

I am naturalized, and can never be president, even though both of my parents were natural-born citizens and had in no way given up their citizenship.  

Should a person, born to natural-born citizens who just happened to be in a different country on the day they were born, and who has been a citizen themselves since being naturalized at a young age, and then raised in this country, be deprived of the opportunity to be president due to an arcane requirement set over two hundred years ago when travel occurred either by foot or by horseback?
