July 22, 2003 -- Tony Blair's speech to the Congress was as inspiring as it was encouraging. You'd never know it to listen to ABC News' Peter Jennings ("Jennings' War," Opinion, William F. Buckley Jr., July 21).

Instead of focusing on the speech and how well it was received, Jennings went right to clips of past Parliament sessions during which Blair was assailed as a "liar."

The simple truth is that Jennings is an arch-liberal who dislikes conservatives so much he is willing to distort the facts to discredit Bush and Republicans. Airing half-truths as the liberal media does perpetually is just as bad as airing outright lies which they do also.

Is it fair for the media to report things that are not going well? Of course. But it would also be fair for them to report the things that go right which they loathe doing...when a Republican is in office that is. Jennings proves Bernard Goldberg correct every day.

The root of the demoralization of our troops is the media...Mike(hubby) was warning me several weeks ago that all these negative stories were affecting our troops...that and all the attacks, heat, etc...just snowballed.....the troops hear no praise in the media on all the good things they are doing in Iraq and feel/know the support is slipping in the US.

It's even simpler than that, IMO. The key fact is that the media, with few exceptions, is part and parcel of the Left. Therefore, everything they do is related to their agenda of bringing socialism to America. A success for Bush in the Middle East, or a success by him against terrorism, is the worst scenario possible for them. So they have been, and are continuing to do everything in their power to prevent such a success.

Jennings just happens to be a little more strident than some of the rest of them.

I don't usually watch ABC News, but the few times I have, I wonder why people even bother, if they are looking for news instead of editorials. The man tries very feebly to hide his aversion to Bush and the current Administration. His news team tries very hard to find fault with every angle of every American policy, no matter what the topic happens to be, from Liberia to drug prescription. This is in contrast to the fawning days where Peter Jennings seemed to be getting on his knees when interviewing the Great Stainmaker. Were some space alien come to earth and watch ABC, he/she would have to say that while Clinton couldn't do anything wrong, Bush can't do anything right, according to the mouth of Peter Jennings.

I have a friend that is not too bright and seems to think (or has bought into) the idea that the media is more conservative than liberal.
