Google News Adds Advanced Search Capabilities (Will Be of Much Use to Freepers)
Google News ^ | July 21, 2003

For as long as Google News has existed, its search feature has been a pale copy of the many search features available on the rest of Google. You could plug very basic searches into the box at the top of the page, and limit by source (if you knew how, which most people didn't), but as of today they offer the same full advanced search capability as all other parts of Google. You can easily choose to search only certain news sources (example: only Fox News articles); only news sources in a certain state or country; whether the search terms are anywhere in the article, only in the article, only in the headline,or only in the URL; and limit by date (though Google News still only retains articles for 30 days).

Hopefully this will be of use to many Freepers in their various information hunts.

This is the nascent Mainstream Media Shenanigans ping list. Please freepmail me to be added or dropped.
Please note this will likely become a high-volume list.
Also feel free to ping me if you come across a thread you would think worthy of the ping list. I can't catch them all!

Nine minutes, and no one has posted any of that inane Google-is-evil-and-liberal fodder.

Wish I could find a search source for donors and their donations to various non-profits. You can search non-profits at guidestar.org, but trying to do a reverse match on who donates to which orgs is not possible to my knowledge...?

For instance, I'd like to be able to plug in a name and see who gets his donations. Like, who gets James Carville's spare change?

That info isn't mandated to be provided by the Non-profits, thus I doubt you'll find a source listing the donors.

We have a right to know that because... (okay, I give up)?

And don't forget the Google Toolbar Beta 2.0 - which has a built in pop-up blocker, among other things. Very useful and easy to use!

I'm still using the earlier Google toolbar because I don't need a popup killer. If you click on "Google" and then click on Toolbar Options you can choose which buttons to show on the toolbar and you can eliminate the functions that send reports to Google on the sites you visit.

We need to have lexis-nexus for free.

By the way googles image galley is very cool. The google bots seem to work 24x7. Also you can submit your website to them should you not have a presence yet. Good news page as well.
