Ask Gonzo and others here from FR, who said things not even close to this picture and had visits from the SS.

LA has a "both" papers? Not since the sadly lamented Herald went out of business. What other paper do you read besides the LA Times?

Old enough to be frightened. A thread like this looks like a Bizarro DU thread. But I remember the YAFers from the 70's 80's, but I thought some of us had gone beyond him.

I believe the executioner in the photo ended up living in the United States. I think members of his family were killed by the VC or NVA prisoner, and it was perfectly allowable under the "rules of war" to execute him because he was wearing civilian clothes.

BCraggo66 and William McKinley in posts #44 and #45 pretty much nailed it.

If you run the idea a little deeper, it could even be MORE sympathetic to Bush: The raw, graphic content of the orignal image during Vietnam, shorn of its context, had a powerful effect on national sentiment.

SMILE. Sorta like the powerful effect the cartoon is having on this thread.

I'll bend on the side of stupid questions.. you have no clue what you're talking about do you? He didn't say he couldn't voice his opinion.. he asked him a question. "You want to shut down a newspaper?" So easy their tiger.. and welcoming the closing of a newspaper because you don't like their views IS very clearly un-american.

The First Amendment protects ALL political speech and that is what this clearly is. Some of us believe so much in the absolute nature of that Amendment that even crying "Fire!" in a non-burning theater should be protected.

It is, as Justice Hugo Black noted, the price of freedom.

The ones who killed the Vietnamese man was evil and Bush is made the victim here, but that doesn't wash this clean at all.
Ramirez should be fired.

Freedom of Speech stops when you yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater. An individual who would write that, even in jest, would get an automatic 5 years. I think slamming the cartoonist, the editors who approved the cartoon, and the owner of the paper with 3 to 5, each, might serve to put people on notice that the Secret Service is entirely without a sense of humor.

Just as a rule of thumb, don't point a gun at the Pres. It seems simple enough, but dims are sort of simple...

You are correct... The page I found that pic on was an obituary of sorts.

The 'executioner' escaped Vietnam in '75 and lived out his days in suburban D.C. as a restaurateur.

"Totally irresponsible, puppy pad rag should be shut down...this is not free speech it it treason"

Depends on how you interpret the cartoon. If the guy with the gun didn't have "Politics" written on his back, then I'd be outraged. However, what the cartoon conveys to me is that Bush is/has committed political suicide via Operation Iraqi Freedom. I'm not at all offended, simply because of the way I'm interpreting the "comic" .
