34th Anniv. of CHAPPAQUIDDICK: A Profile in Cowardice (Ted Kennedy, the accident, and the cover-up!)

Chappaquiddick - Today, July 19, 1969, is the 34th anniversary of one of the most unbelievable coverups in modern history.

Chappaquiddick has been called "the most brilliant cover-up ever achieved in a nation where investigative procedures are well developed and where the principles of equal justice prevail, at least during some of those moments where people are watching."
~ The Last Kennedy by Robert Sherrill

The mysteries of the case continue to haunt Ted Kennedy as well as the authorities who investigated them. Charges of ineptitude and lack of diligence abounded, as did insinuations that the machinery of justice crumbled beneath the power and prestige of the Kennedy family. George Killen, former State Police Detective-Lieutenant, and chief of a never-revealed investigation, lamented that the failure to bring the case to a satisfactory conclusion was "the biggest mistake" of a long and distinguished police career. Senator Kennedy, he said, "killed that girl the same as if he put a gun to her head and pulled the trigger."
~ Senatorial Privilege by Leo Damore

Quote; "Do we operate under a system of equal justice under law? Or is there one system for the average citizen and another for the high and mighty?"
~ Senator Ted Kennedy, 1973

I called Senator Kennedy's office yesterday....sweetly asked the man who answered what type of celebration the senator had planned to honor the annivesary of Chappaquiddick.......

Stunned silence and then 'click'.

I sent him an e-mail congratulating him of his "great fortune" by seemingly getting away with murder.
I also reminded him of a time, destined to come, when his position will be his liability as he comes to terms with the punishment he had chosen to put off.

I spent a while composing my 34-year anniversary e-mail to him and sent it to the e-mail you listed...and it came back, recipient unknown!

Mary Jo Kopechne would be 63 now, had she not had the misfortune to meet young Teddy Wheresmypants Kennedy.

I understand that since Chappaquiddick all of Kennedy's automobiles have been installed with knotometers instead of speedometers.

In her horrible and untimely death, Mary Jo Kopechne unwittingly and tragically performed a great service for this country: she made certain that Ted Kennedy would never become president of the United States. We all remember the senator lecturing us on what America would be like if Robert Bork were elevated to the Supreme Court -- well, it would not be anything like the ONE day when Senator Kennedy wore a neck brace, one month after the accident: the day of his court hearing! The brace (and his "injuries" that required it) disappeared the next day.

The address appears correct. Maybe his staff disabled it for the occasion!

Another Kennedy, the one who tried to get an annulment from his wife and mother of his children, so he could marry his pregnant girlfriend...........was driving the car that left a young woman paralyzed following an accident.

Remember "Ode to Billie Joe"? The meter works out fine for:
"The night that Teddy Kennedy drove off the Chappaquiddik bridge"
"The night that Billie Joe McAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

Teddy got away with it because in those days the Kennedys were above the law.

My how things have changed. The Kennedys would never get away with anything close to the Chappaquiddick cover up in 2003. I agree with the poster who stated that although it is tragic that Mary Jo Kopechne lost her life, her death prevented Fat Teddy from ever becoming President. However, the old drunk and his drunken son Patrick are still in government, living off the taxpayer, and finding ways to infringe on our freedom. I look forward to the day where the Kennedys finally leave politics forever, in disgrace.

That was Joseph Kennedy, the one-time candidate for the Mass. Govenor's job. He rolled the car while passing a tour bus on one of Nantucket Island's worst corners. He was, no doubt, yelling at the bus driver, "Do you know who I am?..."

Howie Carr, Boston's great talk show host and columnist, plans to do his show live from the Chappy bridge next year to celebrate the 35th anniversary. I'm putting in for the day off now!!!

I disagree that "Fat Ted" and his kin couldn't get away with this in 2003. Look at the clinton's getting away with their crimes. IMHO people like the kennedys, clintons, jesse jackass, hollywood snobs etc.will continue to get away with crimes. I'm happy to say that one day they WILL pay for their deeds.
