Annan Wants Plan for Iraqi Self-Rule Aide Advises 'Tangible Steps' to Elections

By Colum Lynch Washington Post Staff Writer Saturday, July 19, 2003; Page A12

UNITED NATIONS, July18 -- U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan urged the United States and Britain today to move more quickly to restore power to Iraqis and to set out a timetable for the end of U.S. military occupation in Iraq.

In his first major assessment of postwar developments in Iraq, Annan also cited Iraqi concerns that the United States has mistreated Iraqi prisoners of war and failed to improve living conditions in Baghdad and other major cities since it ousted Saddam Hussein's government. But Annan also blamed Iraqi looters and organized saboteurs for undermining international efforts to restore stability to Iraq.

Kofi's getting a little impatient . . . we've toppled a fear-based tyranny and are attempting to simultaneously instill democracy and infrastructure . . . apparently this is supposed to be accomplished within two months . . .

Kofi Annan is a worthless human being. He has absolutely no knowledge of history or he would know there is no way these things can be done overnight. Tell you what Kofi, why don't you study how long it took for the UN to restore peace and security to Kosovo and Bosnia. And how long did it take the UN to restore the infrastructure there? What's that? It's still not done years after the fighting stopped? Why not Kofi? You've been in charge for YEARS and yet you question why we haven't done in 3 months what you haven't been able to accomplish in years!

Thank you very much!
Thank you very much!
That's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me.
It isn't every day
good fortune comes me way!
I never thought the future would be fun for me!
And if I had a bugle
I would blow it to add a sort
o' how's your father's touch.
But since I left me bugle at home
I simply have to say
Thank you very, very, very much!
Thank you very, very, very much!

Thank you for your donation!

Next, Kofi will try to get us to clean up some of the mess in Africa. Liberia, Uganda, Sudan--you pick. If we are so persuaded, once the overt mayhem is suppressed there Kofi will start agitating for self-rule all over again. I hope we're smarter. Africa is a Euro-mess, with special responsibility to the French and Belgians.

Sounds good to me... but we control the oil fields. Stop using our soldiers to police downtown Baghdad - that's the Iraqi's problem.

I am not ready to trust the Mesopotamians not to use their riches to bankroll our adversaries.

When they prove themselves to be responsible enough to use their bounty to better the Iraqi people, instead of funding Jihad, we will consider a transition of sovereignty.

And the French refuse to do anything to fix their mess unless the US helps them . . . I don't know if its possible to be more obnoxious, annoying, etc. than the French government . . .

I dont think Kofi gives a RATS A$$ about the christians being murdered and enslaved in the Sudan.
My guess is that he would much rather see the Iranian Mullas take over Iraq.

I don't care what Annan says, besides that I was really hoping the U.N. would have been dissolved by now. CRAP! This has been a disappointing year so far.
