Stop U.S. From Re-joining UNESCO

ISSUE: In 1984, President Ronald Reagan pulled the plug on U.S. participation in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), due to the organization's corruption and history of undermining the sovereignty of the United States.

Now President Bush and Congress are prepared to force the U.S. back into this un-American organization that loathes the principles upon which our nation was founded.

According to the American Policy Center (americanpolicy.org), last fall, President Bush told the United Nations that the United States would rejoin UNESCO in an attempt to curry the favor of U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan during a period of strained relations. Now those horrible chickens are coming home to roost.

H.R. 1950, the "Foreign Relations Authorization Act," includes a provision that both expresses the sense of Congress that the U.S. is resuming membership in UNESCO, and authorizes dues payments to UNESCO.

Whatever for? In truth, as Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) has noted, the agency is nothing but a mouthpiece for the usual UN causes, including international abortion and population control; politically correct UN curriculum for American schools; UN control of federal land in America; cultural relativism; and global taxation, just to name a few.

Those calling for the United States to rejoin UNESCO claim that the organization has undertaken fundamental reforms and therefore the United States should re-join. But isn't it strange that in the 18 years since the United States left UNESCO, we only started reading about the beginnings of reform in the year 2000? Are we to believe that after nearly two decades of no change in UNESCO's way of mis-managing itself, things have changed so much in just two or three years? Is it worth spending $60 million per year on an organization with such a terrible history of waste, corruption, and anti-Americanism?

No, we don't think so, either.

ACTION ITEM: Congress plans to vote on H.R. 1950 sometime in the next few weeks. Thankfully, Rep. Paul has sponsored a Congressional resolution to prevent the U.S. from re-joining UNESCO (H. Con. Res. 4).

We have no time to lose. Go to our site below to send your Congressman a FREE message, asking him or her to support H. Con. Res. 4 and vote *against* H.R. 1950 - tell Congress NOT to re-join UNESCO:
Vote Against H.R. 1950

NOTE: Be sure to forward this to everyone you know who opposes sending tax dollars to an organization that actively promotes values so contrary to those of most Americans.

Thank you!

My congresscritters are Jumping Jim Jeffords and Leaky Leahy. I'm afraid they're unlikely to listen to the voice of reason. Maybe some messages to Bush might help.

UNESCO are the same guys who are helping Castro rebuild Habana la Vieja (Old Havana). I also got a shock the other morning driving around the older part of Panama City to find that these twerps are also helping to rebuild that part of the city (R de P). The strange thing is that I never saw anybody working in Havana. I also didn't see a soul working here in Panama. They must come out in the middle of the night or something.

1948 -- UNESCO president and Fabian Socialist, Sir Julian Huxley, calls for a radical eugenic policy in UNESCO: Its Purpose and Its Philosophy. He states: "Thus, even though it is quite true that any radical eugenic policy of controlled human breeding will be for many years politically and psychologically impossible, it will be important for UNESCO to see that the eugenic problem is examined with the greatest care and that the public mind is informed of the issues at stake that much that is now unthinkable may at least become thinkable."

Is their any liberal issue that Bush won't co-opt to win the next election? I voted for the guy, I like the guy, I support the war, but this is getting to be just too much.

Yeah, everyone knows that Bush's affection for the UN isn't breaking news.

You are kidding, I hope. There are over 700,000 NGOs in the world today - a good number pushing UN socialist propaganda. Pres. Bush did more to debunk decades of pro-UN lies in the brave stand he took Sept. 2002 than have Ron Paul or Sen. Helms or decades of anti-UN activists.

Clinton gave these NGO's unprecidented authority over US foreign policy in nations around the world. He still meets with those favoring UN-NGO socialist international authority over US supremacy on the world stage. It is THE war going on behind the scenes right now. Hillary pledged her loyalty (and that of the Dem. party) to international socialist organizations - instead of relying on the US military - in a Der Speigel interview last month. A Norwegian leader wants Bill Clinton to be head of NATO, but most agree he's gunning for the head of the UN. Still, if you feel Bush is the enemy, I'm certain the UN thanks you for spreading that far and wide.

Have you followed the NGOs misbehavior in Iraq - the trouble they've caused SOD Rumsfeld, Amb. Bremer and our troops - trolling for victims to bash the Bush Admin., making and breaking promises to the Iraqi people? Their websites are anti-Bush activism sites, their loyalties are to the UN - against the US - and against Bush.

I'm not sure how your post proves that Bush is "anti-UN", but here are his own words...

"As a Symbol of Our Commitment to Human Dignity, the United States will return to UNESCO. This organization has been reformed and America will participate fully in its mission to advance human rights, tolerance, and learning."

--President George W. Bush
September 12, 2002

September 12, 2002 at the UN General Assembly:

"The conduct of the Iraqi regime is a threat to the authority of the United Nations..."

"We want the United Nations to be effective, and respectful, and successful."

At Camp David, Semptember 14, 2002:

"The UN will either be able to function as a peacekeeping body, as we head into the 21st century, or it will be irrelevent."

October 31, 2002 in S. Dakota President Bush said:

"I went to the United Nations a while ago because I want the United Nations to be effective."

I was told MY A ADMIN MODERATOR TO DO JUST THAT!! That's the ONLY REASON why I did that! You Guys should get your heads together and decide on what goes under what heading. I'm only following the rules given to me by an Admin Moderator several months ago. He/She said to put "ALL ACTIVISM POSTS UNDER BREAKING NEWS"!! If you that policy has been changed, then you people should have announced that change.

Seriously folks, don't sit on your kiesters for this one. Get up and call your congressman or at least send them an email. It may be too late, who knows, but at least you've done something other than bellyache.
