Locked & loaded on the 4th of July
New York Daily News ^ | 7/04/03

Shocked, shocked are the fainthearts that President Bush has openly double-dared Iraq's rogue troublemakers to come take a poke at our troops any time they feel like mixing it up. "Bring 'em on!" war-whoops the commander in chief, and you'd think this pack of Democratic presidential aspirants had never seen a John Wayne movie in their whole lives.

"Phony macho rhetoric!" bawls candidate Rep. Dick Gephardt. "Unworthy of the office!" bleats Sen. John Kerry. "Tremendous insensitivity!" blubbers Gov. Howard Dean. Cripes. What a bunch of twinkies.

"Tremendous insensitivity"? Find one warrior who thinks that. It's a fair guess that our fighting men and women are overwhelmingly right behind the President's jubilant battle cry. Combat troopers live to start blasting away at some unfriendly or other. It's what they're trained for. They're locked and they're loaded and they're ready for bear. It's what they do.

It's what they do extraordinarily well - because they made the choice for themselves. It was 30 years ago this Independence Day weekend that the military draft ended in the United States and the modern fighting force began to rebuild itself into a professional unit. Today, it's the best in the world. There is nobody pressed into wearing the uniform. There is nobody forced to take up arms contrary to will or personal conviction.

Every soldier, every sailor, every flier, every Marine - they're on the job because it's the job they want.

Are they in harm's way? Of course. Another 10 soldiers were wounded just a day after Bush threw down his challenge to the bad guys. It's likely more will be wounded and more will be killed. On this Fourth of July, let us salute them all and let them know we're every bit as confident in them as is a fiercely proud President. Let Gephardt try to write him off as "phony macho." Our men and women in uniform no doubt have even choicer, and more accurate, descriptions of Gephardt and his ilk.

"We have the force necessary to deal with the security situation," declares the President of the United States.

He is correct. We certainly do. That's exactly the reason all of us today still have this sacred national holiday to celebrate.

Happy Independence Day.

"Bring 'em on!"
I call that leadership. He isn't going to wring his hands over a skunk in the hen house. He's going to kill it. Thank the Lord for a leader in the White House. The nine midgets from my party will be wearing skirts this 4th of July to get in touch with their silly side.
May the Lord bless our troops and the CNC.

OK America, you see who they are, you see the party they stand for, you here what they say, you know who supports them.

Save America Vote for a moral, freedom loving conservative who is 180 degrees in opposition to the liberal.

LOL, isn't it great! "What a bunch of twinkies." Maybe the good old Daily News got knocked to the right a bit because of 9/11. I grew up with that paper, stopped reading it years ago, but this is a great editorial and I agree with them 100%. And, more to the point, the vast majority of Americans agree with them too. I sincerely hope the Dems remain as clueless as this editorial shows them to be.

I always thought it would be fun to bomb Beijing for a Fourth of July fireworks display.

Do they still have that great comic section. I got that every week when I was growing up in East Texas?

Does anyone have the numbers as far as volunteers to the most likely combat groups (seals, rangers, airborne, etc) have been the past year?

If the liberals are right, men are now seeing that they will most likely see combat, so they are avoiding that kind of service. I'd say that the numbers are probably up.

bush is just doing more of the very effective psyops like we had during the successful invasion.
loud music blaring taunts at the enemy's manhood caused them to attack in the open and we slaughtered them.
daring them to attack our soldiers in Iraq
1. picks the place of the battle where we are best.
2. pulls focus off of easier targets (like US or world-wide)
this is a war.
its clear the dems quoted don't think it is a war and if they were in charge we would lose because of that.

Add that the troops in occupation of Bagdhad are not as soft a target as embassy staffs and garrison troops in Europe. If you are sleeping on a cot in a bare room, and running three patrols a day, it is easier to remember to guard your back and trust no one.

As we speak, fascist (communist in name only) China is outfitting its new strategic submarines, type 094, with American city busting nuke headed missles, designs stolen (remember W-88 and AG Reno w/ Congress dithering) from Los Alomos under Bill & Hillary's Clintons anything-for-money-and-personal-power watch.

I believe that our treasonous first couple and DNC Politburo see themselves sharing the world with the slave camp Chinese and petro-dollar gold plated Islamic kings.

"Bring 'em on" = Bush has finally sobered up from the PC opium everyone in Washington has been smoking. Its about time the Commander in Cheif realized, as the Victorians realized, we are a colonial power dealing with primitive savages who need a dose of the Gatling Gun before peace can prevail.

"Do they still have that great comic section?"

They do still have plenty of comics, at least 2 full pages on the weekdays, so I'm sure they have plenty on Sunday. When I was growing up the media was a lot more conservative than today, and the NY Post was THE Libral paper, so we never took that.

The highlight of our week when my brothers and I were school-aged was to go out late on Saturday night, about 10 O'Clock or so, walk up to the newstand and buy The Sunday News and Sunday NY Times, we'd usually get a treat too, ice cream, or something. Then we'd haul the papers home and read the comics while we watched "Chiller Theatre" or some other great old movies on the TV.

Mary Perkins was my favorite, thanks for reminding me of those good old days!
