"America is essentially a dream." A decade ago, I heard Martin Luther King Jr. say that in a recorded speech, and it has stuck with me as we near Independence Day 2003. A few fragments of the glorious dream that is America come to mind especially as we are still reeling from the terrorist attacks of 9/11. We are starting to realize how many people in the rest of the world wish us ill. And we realize from the cruel example of Iraq just how hard it is to start a democratic republic on the ashes of despotism.

Yes he does. And during his stint as a judge on the TV series Star Search, he took every opportunity to mention our brave men and women serving in Iraq. His patriotism always got big applause.
