Virgins Meet in Sin City, Tout Abstinence
By CHRISTINA ALMEIDA The Associated Press Sunday, June 29, 2003; 7:54 AM
LAS VEGAS - In a city known more for sin than virtue, a group of virgins from around the country gathered this weekend to send a message: wait until marriage.
It was a clash of the "Good Girls" and the sin-seekers as about 200 teens, parents and youth counselors descended on the Strip to pass out cards promoting abstinence.
"What better place to bring this than Sin City?" said participant Deanna Grimm, 24, of Sioux Falls, S.D. "They need to hear it."

I wonder how many came back from Las Vegas non-virgins.

As long as she stays away from Clinton she might be able to keep her virginity.

Why do they think the rest of us care?

Could it be because MORALITY is raising its head??
And THIS is "supposed" to be a conservative web site!
Sometimes I really think that this country *IS* hopelessly lost.

Show me how a bunch of nosy prohibitionist prudes ever added wealth or amenities to a community through negative legislation or in-your-face prudishness, and I'll kiss a pig.

Show me how a bunch of nosy prohibitionist prudes ever added wealth or amenities to a community I don't think adding wealth or amenities is what they would be wanting :) But as far as wealth and prudes - the amish are quite wealthy, and tourism center around them here in some areas brings in a lot of tax dollars ;)

Your side's view in the article:
But Clare Rose disagreed with the group's message, saying it should focus more on sex education. "They're being narrow-minded and naive," said the 21-year-old who was walking by with friends. "People in this day and age are not, not going to have sex."
The Realistic View:
Studies show that in the United States there are about 45 million cases of herpes, 20 million cases of human papillomavirus (HPV) and 900,000 people living with AIDS.
"There's no condom on the face of this earth that can prevent HPV. It's so highly contagious,"
Now --- Which one of the above views makes so much more sense? Yours or the sensible way?

....about 200 teens, parents and youth counselors... If you estimate that, for each teen there would be an average of 1.5 parents and probably 0.1 counselors, that means that, out of 200 people, there are about 77 teenagers who are (they claim) virgins and intend to remain so.
Of course, if some of them are guys like I was in highschool, making an affirmative decision for prolonged virginity is absolutely superfluous.
But frankly, if it would get me a vacation to Las Vegas, even though I was not old enough for the casinos or bars, I would swear I was a virgin and would stay that way too.

It's amazing how threatened some people get when a person conciously chooses to keep it in their pants until marriage. "Why, it's unnatural, I tells ya!"
Get over it.

Horses and carriages used as staple transport as an amenity? No electricity as an amenity?
Sorry, but if you take the Amish freakshow off the farms in Lehigh County (they're getting a little inbred to be good examples), land value skyrockets due to modern ag production methods and subdivision.
