Thanks for posting the engineer's letter in post #46!

Some thoughts re some of the points in the letter....

Are we still getting shot at? Yep.

Are American soldiers still dying? Yep, about one a day from my outfit, the 4th Infantry Division, most in accidents, but dead is dead.

The general Iraqi population isn't shooting at us. There are still bad guys who won't let go of the old regime. They are Ba'ath party members (Read Nazi Party, but not as nice) ... They have no other skills. At least the Nazis [in Germany] had jobs and a semblance of a national infrastructure that they could go back to after the war, as plumbers, managers, engineers, etc. These people have no skills but terror. They are simply applying their skills ... and we are applying ours.

What's too often left out of the liberal press reports -- and the constant whining and tantrums from the angry hoard of candidates (one of whom will let you know every chance he gets that he served in Viet Nam) -- is the emphasis that our skills include maintaining a defensive posture while restoring order and services!

The letter writer compared Iraq to the size of Texas. I've more often heard it compared to California. I prefer the latter because I'm willing to bet an interesting statistic would result from comparing the daily number of innocent U.S. Military deaths in Iraq caused by Ba'ath party thugs :::versus::: the number of innocent U.S. citizen deaths in LA caused by gang member thugs. (I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that Democratic so-called social programs are responsible for a much bigger quagmire in South Central alone than we're witnessing in all of Iraq!)

I'll climb off my soapbox now. (I don't handle heights well.) ;)

In an ideal world, I'd invite y'all back to my place for some freedom flapjacks! Until I get that coveted big kitchen, please accept a rain check....
