[history]
June 17, 2003 -- OSCARS are usually given to the wrong movie. But this past March, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences committed a special sort of hate crime when it handed out the Best Documentary trophy. The winner was Michael Moore, the fact-challenged America-loather, for his "Bowling for Columbine." It's certainly unfortunate that Moore can win any award other than the Stalin Prize, but the campaign some conversatives have started over the Internet to get the Oscar rescinded is kind of silly.

HBO makes great shows. After you've seen "The Sopranos" and "6 Feet Under" you'll understand why they're different from standard run of the mill commercial TV fare.

Is this documentary on DVD yet? I will definitely pick it up when it does come out. I agree with you about HBO but I am not a subscriber. I watch very little TV and if there is a TV series worth watching, I'd rather get it on DVD and watch it anytime I want rather than become a slave to whatever time slot that show is on.
So I have the first three seasons of The Sopranos on DVD. I realize that many here have an issue with this series because of the violence and profanity used. But c'mon, this is a show about the mafia. You hardly expect the characters to say things like: "Gee Tony, that unsavory character from the city is moving in on our turf, we're going to have to do something really, really drastic. Like bop him in the head with a whiffle bat or something." I think the series is very well done and it blows away anything you would see on network TV.
The DVD is a great medium because it is so easy to find a particular scene or to playback a scene or even to freeze-frame a scene. I recently acquired The Civil War series by Ken Burns and will soon be adding a lot of other documentaries to my collection. The DVD is also a great medium for music. I've already collected several music DVDs ranging from opera to rock concerts.

Washington Times gave it an excellent review. Complained that the members of The Academy Award Committee must have not seen this fine movie, otherwise they would not have let Michael Moore win
This will take off due to word of mouth.
