I think he gives us a very objective analysis, pointing out that a lot of the debate about WMD-s did take place prior to the war, and that foreign intel services agreed with the US.

The author's point is that ultimately the Predident has to show leadership, which he did, in removing a threat.

Yes.

Every dubious claim -- the Niger purchase, the aluminum tubes, the link to al-Qaeda -- was thoroughly debated, and the doubts of some in the intelligence community about particular claims were widely discussed well in advance of the war.
