2-Year-Old Died From Internal Hemorrhaging, Split Liver, Bruised Skull

GREEN BAY -- A 32-year-old Green Bay man has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the death of a 2-year-old.

A criminal complaint filed Monday says Wilbur Leslie told police he stayed up late with Taylor Farah Friday night, and started playing a boxing game with him while he changed the boy's diaper.

Leslie said he and Taylor took turns punching one another in the stomach, and Taylor laughed, but Leslie admitted he got carried away and "started hitting Taylor harder each time."

His statement states that the last three or four times, Leslie hit the toddler as hard as he could in the stomach.

An autopsy showed the boy suffered severe internal hemorrhaging, his liver was split in two, and he had a bruised skull.

The complaint says Leslie and his wife have cared for the boy for the past three months, with their own children, while Taylor's mother was working.

Leslie said he didn't mean to hurt Taylor, and considered him part of the family.

My first reaction was that this was his cover story for what actually happened, but it's such a stupid story that it might actually be the truth. Who would make up something like that?

I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but you don't get a bruised skull from punching a stomach. I can't comment on the split liver, it's too sick.

When I was 16 or so, my cousins were around 4 and they would play silly games like "let's hit each other as hard as we can". I would give the kid the lightest tap and swear up and down that was as hard as I could punch.

How could a 32 year old man punch a 2 year old in the stomach "as hard as he could"????

The poor baby probably got bounced around pretty good from such stiff punches. I can envision his little head flying around from the force.

Possibly in a whiplash effect if the child was lying on a table. The back of the skull (which is not yet fully formed on a 2 year old) would strike the table.
