So it shouldn't be shocking or disturbing that another one of those global opinion polls from Washington's Pew Center reports that many foreign Arabs and Muslims hold unfavorable views of America - and that the war in Iraq has made America less popular than it was six months ago, especially in places like France and Russia.

Maybe the US should just disengage for about 6-months and left the French and the Arabs and everyone else who hates come up with a few reasons to wish we were willing to help them again:) They will make a fine mess and then say their unfavorable impression of the US is due to not caring enough!

...it has also "significantly weakened global public support for the pillars of the post-World War II era - the U.N. and the North Atlantic Alliance." ...

This is great news.

Get the US out of both!

On top of all that is our matchless prosperity (born of hard work - not oil deposits) [...]

Well, the Mesabi Range, a temperate Plains breadbasket, immense forests, Appalachian coal, and, yes, a Texas oil patch (now largely depleted) had something to do with it. Let's be honest.

My sentiments exactly. Adopt a policy of "Don't like us? Fine. Then starve."

The equation is simple: Old civillizations believe in kings Americans believe in killing kings....it scares those who depend on blood-lines to think that they are no more worthy to the graces of God than a whore in the street.

Sometimes, doing the right thing isn't popular. If you do the right thing on a regular basis, you can well expect to be despised.

No matter how much you love concensus, and finding a good compromise, some things in life are not negotiable. There was no middle ground for dealing with Saddam, or bin Laden. Americans love to be loved, and are honestly and innocently shocked when people who we help or have helped turn on us.

The truth about human nature is that everyone wants to see you fail when you're number one. Our repeated success highlight their repeated failures, and many long to see us embarassed and humiliated.
