I've tried colchicine, but didn't get much relief. What a did get was an unpleasant side effect, of the "explosive" variety.
I've been getting relief from eating cherries, but I've heard sweet black cherry juice will be more effective.
It's taken me a few days to find a store that sold it, but I just now drank my first big sixteen ounce glass of the stuff.

Then the dosage was too high! Colchicine is supposed to be given in small amounts, one tablet every hour until the pain stops. You know you've gone too far when you get the effect you had! Mine are 0.6 MG. Do you know/remember what the strength of yours were? It is the most effective drug/chemical for gout.
