What do you use on these critters which are really big with armor plating all over them?

I would be tempted to leave my 30-06 home and use a 12 gauge 3.5 mag with rifled slugs.

.....my Louisiana poacher friend used a little old cheap-assed bolt action .22LR.....sometimes he would hunt at night out of a boat with a light and tie a string around the rifle's trigger guard...the other end of the string would be tied to an eye hook under the boat.....if approached by another boat he would throw the rifle overboard and say he was gigging frogs.....he was a one shot, one kill alligator hunter...shot 'em right through the eye which glows reddish in a spot light.....used an old claw hammer for a gaff to get the gator in the boat....he rarely took anything over 5-6 feet because the grain on the hide was better on that size......salted green hides were bringing $15 a running foot which was good money in the late 60s.....and it was straight cash too......
