The Great San Francisco Bubble (FreeRepublic Mentioned)
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | day, May 9, 2003 | Mark Morford

Edited on 04/13/2004 2:42:26 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

It's that odd dumbstruck jolting feeling you get as soon as you step more than 25 miles away from this most progressive and funked-out and deeply flawed and self-consciously screwy of kaleidoscopic American urban metropoli: oh my freaking God, what is happening to the world? This is what you say. To yourself. Probably.

I think this writer is living in a bubble within San Francisco. I guess he's never heard KSFO- one of the most popular radio stations.

Reminds me of a quote from Paulin Kael in 1972: She couldn't unserstand how Richard Nixon won the election- everyone she knew voted for McGovern.

Of course, this guy fails to realize that all of the things he loves about S.F. are destroying it, companies leaving, tourism down, crime up, big city deficits.

I can see why FR was mentioned. He seems to have quite a fan base around here.

It happens when you step off that plane in some -- let's say -- "differently evolved" part of the country and don't see a single ethnic person for four days and can't get a decent organic basil-and-goat-cheese omelet to save your life and all the theaters are playing Adam Sandler and the concept of fresh sushi means "less freezer burn than the corn dogs." Elitist? Whatever.

Ahh, all that matters in life is getting organic basil and goat cheese. Well...that and getting fisted on a regular basis. Yes Mark, we know what you think is good in life. LOL

Morford is allergic to God and religion. His columns always slam people of faith.

This was painful to read. I can't believe somebody pays him to write this way.

that is, if my rabid monosyllabic gun-lickin' hate mail from, say, the psychopatriot Freeps over at freerepublic.com

This legend-in-his-own-mind has obviously been innoculated against reality.
SF as the yardstick against which "normalcy" is measured?

I've been there done that. Lived in SF many years and Marin County many years. Trust me... it didn't take long to feel at home among real people. The other 95%.

Thank God for "outside the bubble"!

It's interesting how important this is to some people. I work with a very sweet young Vietnamese-American woman who is convinced that if she travels very far outside the Bay Area she is going to be attacked and killed by rural white Klan-types. I told her that if she is going to suffer any racial violence in her life, it will be in her own South Berkeley neighborhood and it won't be white people who do it. I don't think she was convinced. This is one of the ways Democrats keep such an iron grip on minority voters - they spread myths about how horrible the "white Republican" world is outside the little bubble they live in.

Mark Morford is but one example why I won't spend a quarter to buy that stinkin' paper.

luminously progressive How lovely. I haven't gone to SF in ages, even though it's just across the bay from where I live. It's a filthy place. Aggressive panhandlers. If you get there before the merchants wash the sidewalks off with water and bleach, you have to step around drunks sleeping in doorways, puddles of pee, piles of human poop, and volumes of vomit. If you go to Golden Gate park, you have to be careful about wandering off the path. There are used hypodermic needles in the bushes, as well as human waste. I'm not sure what the homicide rate is, but it was reported last year that the SF Police only solve about 25% of the homicides. How progressive.

We are a danger to the status quo, a nipple-twisted threat to the "nukular" family, a pantheistic whip on the ass of the Bible Belt, a pox on the house that oil built.

Tell you what. We'll leave you to your own devices if you quit begging us for tax dollars to shield you and your liberal friends from the consequences of your actions.

I read through the rest of the article. What unfettered filth. He is worshipful of hedonism. Gah.

Most of us love the bubble, are exceedingly proud of the bubble, kneel at its gloriously flawed but still radiant altar. Anti-progressives want to burst that bubble? Have at it, honey. Go on and burst it -- all over the rest of the country. C'mon, you know you want to.

This makes me literally nauseated. Worshipping at the "radiant" altar of hedonism.
