His tour of duty at the DNC is now only days away.

I admit I haven't been following this war as much as I should have... but the last I heard this guy killed himself.

No, what happened is that somebody posted an article from some web site in Iran which said that two guys coming in from Baghdad said that they heard that Sahhaf had hung himself.

This was immediately interpreted by some people as meaning that Sahhaf had hung himself. After all, it was obvious that AP, Reuters, CNN, and the NY Times were reporting totally bogus stuff about quagmires and pauses and other nonsense. So when iranianbs.com weighed in with something, many figured it must be true.

Would someone please straighten this out; is he alive or dead?

Who knows? The Iranian site said he hanged himself. Some Portuguese reporters said they were negotiating with him. But then when they actually showed up to meet, it appeared to be some kind of hoax. Now here's Al Bawaba — your source for up-to-the-minute news from wherever the hell they are — saying something else.

Until you see Baghdad Bob in place and anchoring the CBS Evening News, don't believe a thing.

Others have reported that he hung himself, but he is denying it. I’m not sure which to believe.

I'm so glad he'll be coming back so we can eventually find out the answers to these and many other pressing Baghdad Bob questions.

Especially domestic economy questions. He can single-handedly raise the consumer and investor confidence!

I have to wonder if he knows that the majority of conservative and possibly liberal Americans are hoping he is alive and well.

As a result of this conflict, other than Donald Rumsfeld, and Saddam, who is more "marketable?"

Give this guy his own news show for an hour every night. It would be a hoot and would be a real ratings boost for whatever network gets him.

...the majority of conservative and possibly liberal Americans are hoping he is alive and well.

From comments overheard in conversations about him, most seem to think he had to say what he said to stay aliveand are sympathetic toward him. Has anyone heard from his son who was a med student in Europe? He was desperatly trying to find him.

"Is Al Bawaba the Arab version of Debka? "

It seems all the rumors about Baghdad Bob have come from the media and newspapers in the middle east. Almost as though Bagdad Bob himself has been the source of the rumors.

Wonderful News!

If he is NOT guilty of crimes, or gross corruption --- he stands to have a very rewarding career on the "talk circuit"....

He could easily replace ANY of the network talking heads and RAISE their ratings....

"what reaction would he have to this?"

"There are no talking dolls in America. We made the dollmakers so afraid that they destroyed all the dolls and then they committed suicide."

"It has been reported that CNN is now negotiating a contract.............talks have only been stalled due to the inability of CNN representatives to believe Mr. al-Sahaf when he says he 'will work for nothing except the privilege of serving Ted Turner..'."
