Lysander,

The "liberty" of most Libertarians I have talked to sounds more like the "liberty" of the French revolution intellectuals. More representative of Libertines, anarchists, the "liberty" root word of the term "liberals."

Yours, however, sounds more like the "liberty" of the American revolution.

The French revolution libertarians were anti-God, anti-bible. Their brand of "liberty" and egalitarianism continued in the various 19th European revolutions, and ultimately the Russian revolution.

Most Libertarians I have known have more in common with this brand of "liberty." Liberty to be queer, murder your baby if you want (abortion), stay whacked out on heroin all you want, etc. Robespierre would fit right in.
I don't know how you can be a minister and not take a strong stand against this sort of mindset. It is so contrary to the bible. Not saying you don't. But you take a political position that is supportive of these types.

Having thought this through years ago as a Christian, I think constitutional Republican is a better balance. One of them "paleos."

Freewill. Is the short answer. Jesus did not compel he invited. If we are to live in a free society we have got to permit freewill in all behavior that does not causee real harm to others directly. A free government is here to protect us from force, fraud and coercion and to protect our rights as free people. If we do not recognize this aspect of Chritianity in a free country it results in using government to induce socialism to take care of the poor, as just one example.

The Democratic and Republican party are a far bigger threat to me than the behavior of the groups you oppose. The Libertarian party is the only hope for defending freedom. Libertarians are painted by the media and the one-party system the way you describe. I have been involved with state politics of the Ga Libertarian party for years. I can tell you that most are classic liberals who do not use drugs, are not users of prostitutes and do not get abortions.

Regarding abortion-- Libertarians recognize that intelligent people can differ on the principle of what constitutes a human life (for me with a soul) and when it should be granted protection under the law. Let me give you my thoughts. I do not expect to change your opinion, as I stated people disagree. We oppose the spending of any government tax money for abortions, spending tax money on research using fetal material, or the building of a huge federal bureaucracy that would involve government having an inquest every time a women miscarriages, leaves the country pregnant and returns not-pregnant, etc. Also, regarding induced miscarriage (abortion)from my personal theological view. Abortion is only mentioned in the Bible in two places. In neither case is a "right to life" of the miscarried child mentioned or implied. In the first case (Exodus 21:22) a penalty is paid to the father if two men are brawling and a women is accidentally hurt. In the second place there is a little read scripture describing a trial by ordeal. It is in Numbers chapter 5 verses 11-31. It induces an abortion. Yep. That is right God prescribes an abortion procedure as a test for guilt of a women adulterer.
