I was born in Greece, survived the dictatorship there and as a history major in college will tell you the same:

He waxed elequent about Prez Bush's speech at Ft Bliss today. Tony seemed quite happy to hear Mr. Silver's point of view after all the Tim Robbins hoo haa all week.

You see, if you're against violence and some guy holds a gun to your head and asks you for your money, you better re-think your position. You better become VERY VIOLENT at that moment. Or, you're dead.

There's a more compelling and apt similie to our position: we are a village that has been struck by a man-eating tiger. He's an ambush killer of opportunity, he's got the taste, he's going to strike again. You gather the dogs and the elephants, and the men of the village go find the tiger and kill him. Wherever it takes them, however long it demands. That's the only option. The tiger kills on his terms, you can't defend against that threat.

That's where we are at. We can't wait for ambush killers to strike our people again. We need to go find them and kill them first. There's no other alternative available if we wish to live in a secure society that is not suffocated by a ceaseless and corrosive fear.

It's always better to seize the offensive in life's battles that are colored by unknown threats.

But, I am also ashamed of any American especially, who gets up on stage in a different country to badmouth America, while American troops are dying in a desert country they would never want to live in.
