Civilian Satellite Photos of Baghdad (Shock and Awe Results)
Digital Globe ^ | 19 Apr 03 | Digital Globe

First photo: The restaurant where Saddam was to meet his aides on 9 Apr 03. Remember: This photo was taken from SPACE. Big hole.

Next photo is of the square containing Saddam's statue taken several hours before it was toppled. Note the surrounding area and the lack of damage.
Then find some photos of Grozny and compare. This is a perfect example of surgical warfare. Collateral damage? Where?

The next image is of the Presidential Palace, taken on 1 Apr 03. This is the place where the 'Shock and Awe' photos came from. Note the girders inside the building,
as well as the other buildings that are no longer even present on the grounds.

Here's the Presidential palace as seen on 10 Sep 2002 for comparison.

This photo also taken on 1 Apr 03 shows Al Sijud palace, as well as what used to be some structures accross the water from the palace.
They blowed up real good.

This is the Al Salam palace - or should I say it WAS.
The large structure left intact is a mosque. Photo taken 1 Apr 03.

I hadn't seen any of these posted, or really any bomb damage assessment photos, so I thought I'd post these. Sorry for the large photos (and large bandwidth), but in reduced scale the damage is hard to see.

Great pictures!!!

There is a lot of things in these pictures. For example, in the 2nd one, I think we can see a roadblock in the upper left corner (3 vehicles blocking the road.) Same picture, a water tower was split during the attack, flooding the road in front of the palace. Do a comparison between the before and after, you can see the sand that has washed thru the road.

Another picture, (4th one, i think) you can clearly see a deep hole in the ground. I suspect that this is the bunker buster hole that penetrated deep and exploded.

Wish I could post these, but don't have the storage space to link pictures and post.

Yes, I wasn't sure about that crater - it certainly looks as though it took a second hit once the structure was removed. The Presidential palace targeting was amazingly accurate - everything went down the air handling equipment as well as removing some of the guard facilities. I'm very curious why some of the structures were left standing, out of ignorance of their function.

Well done...fascinating to see the girders inside the Palace. Check out the nice swimming pool Saddam has! Bet there aren't very many who can afford those in Baghdad.

Thanks for the photos. I'll show them to a man I work with. He was at one time a photo interpreter, with NPIC.

Great photos,
Scary to realize how detailed a picture from space can be.
If these kind of photos are available for public viewing I can only imagine the detail availbale on classified pictures. No wonder Saddam needs all those doubles, probably more important that the top of their heads match, could be why he is always wearing a hat.

Thanks!

One can only imagine the quality and clarity of the pictures that Yo Kim Chia Head the Short Donged one, Assad and the Murdering Mullahs of Iran received as a personal Photo Album.

The Russians and ChiComs in charge exporting terrorism probably are still throwing up after they got their special Photo Moment delivered by the CIA.

.9m resolution... which means each pixel represents approximately 3 feet.
