NOMINATION THREAD FOR THE FREE REPUBLIC GAROFALO AWARDS
Thursday, April 17, 2003 | Kristinn

Posted on 04/17/2003 7:27:08 PM PDT by kristinn

Nominations for Free Republic's Garofalo Awards are being accepted on this thread.

The Garofalo--ready-to-eat stuffed crows on a platter--will be awarded to prominent individuals in the media and elsewhere whose histrionic predictions of doom and gloom before and/or during Operation Iraqi Freedom stand head and shoulders above all others for their shrillness, certainty, and apocalyptic ravings.

To be nominated, the person must meet the criteria. Documentation will be needed (not necessarily provided by the nominator) to provide specific reasons when announcing the winners as to why they were singled out for special recognition.

Ten Garofolos will be awarded. We will do our best to present them to any winners who attend the White House Correspondents Association dinner April 26 when the D.C. Chapter holds its 5th annual freep there of liberal bias in the media.

Janeane Garofalo, whom the award is named for, is eligible to win.

Nominations close Sunday, April 20 at 3 p.m. EDT. Voting will commence on a new thread soon thereafter.

there are just so many people that should be in the top ten..that I can't even come up with a top ten. Maybe it should be top ten in different categories..political, entertainer, news business with a top winner in each category.

My list, in my latest UPI article, is very similar to yours. I didn't, however, refer to the Garafalo Awards because kristinn hadn't invented them as yet.

Congressman Billybob

Latest column, not yet up on UPI, and FR, "Who's Next?"

Latest book(let), "to Restore Trust in America."

Matt Lauer and Katie Curric could and should, at least, receive dishonorable mentions for asking intelligent people stupid questions.
Paraphrasing an example: Lauer asked the photo-journalist who had undergone 7 hours of intense fighting "Is there any truth to the rumor that you were actually thinking about picking up a gun in order to defend yourself?"

No one has mentioned Helen Thomas yet. Surely she deserves something other than the Ugliest Hag alive in the press corps.

My father-in-law.

Quotes from Christmas Dinner, no less: "Thousands of our boys will die" "What has Iraq done to us?" "We have no right to invade another country" "It's the UN's job, not ours" "I know these things, I'm a WWII vet" And on, and on, and on. Worst Christmas I can remember.

She SAID that???

She also said bringing down the statue of Saddam in Firdos Square was a desecration. Even Brokaw was disgusted by her comment.

I read something recently that said Helen Thomas' parents were Syrian immigrants... could that account for her even more poisonous attitude lately?

Consider this quote by George Clooney,

"I believe (Rumsfeld) thinks this is a war that can be won....We can't beat anyone anymore."

I nominate Bela Pelosi for saying that some of the credit for our victory in Iraq should go to Bill Clinton, because we used "his" weapons to win.

If Clinton's to get some credit for the weapons improvements, then he also gets all the blame for not doing anything with them for eight years.

Ok, here's one:
Tim Clancy from CNN International
http://www.cnn.com/CNN/anchors_reporters/clancy.jim.html
While I was recently on a Cruise, I was stuck with these CNN Int'l clowns (no FNC on ship). One morning during the questions section of the CENTCOM briefing by Gen Brooks, Tim Clancy broke in and casually said "Now we need to get a reality check from our embedded correspondents." I practically lost it, I blew up! "a reality check"?, excuse me! I bet they heard me all over that Coral Princess Ship. How dare that puke insult our brave service people, inclulding our service leaders. It was like Clancy saying that Brooks was lying or at least shading the truth!!! These CNN International pukes really irked me and almost ruined my cruise.

How about a category for cities/towns whose "leaders" voted to condemn US action in Iraq. I'm sure we can get lots of quotes from the mayors and councimembers of those cities.

Of course, I would have to nominate Doctor Raoul's homebase, Takoma Park, MD, and City Councilman (and Montgomery Country Public Schools teacher) Marc Elrich. I will look up the most stupid thing he said, but I'll be awhile. He's said so many stupid things...

OK, nevermind what I just said.

If we had a "city" category, the list of nominees would be too long, and they all deserve to eat crow.

Maybe I can take all the nominations, in all categories, and list them on a banner.

It will be a long banner, but that way everybody who was nominated will get their moment in the spotlight on April 26th.

FreeTheHostages... how long is the longest banner that the art store sells? I think I need to get one. Call me this weekend, please.

:-)
