Bush allows PLO's American offices to remain open [GIVE ME A BREAK]
Jerusalem Post ^ | Apr. 17, 2003 | JANINE ZACHARIA

Posted on 04/17/2003 1:11:10 PM PDT by yonif

US President George W. Bush invoked a national security waiver on Wednesday to prevent sanctions from being levied on the PLO for a period of six months.

Under the Foreign Relations Act of 2003, PLO non-compliance with signed peace accords and continued use of terror and violence would force the president to impose at least one of a menu of sanctions unless he invokes a waiver contained in the law.

President Bush's decision to waive sanctions on the PLO comes as his administration plans to try to jumpstart the dormant Middle East peace process.

Yeah, he's just an abject failure in the foreign arena, isn't he?

Too bad we couldn't have someone with YOUR obvious erudition leading us.

Bush is so stupid! Isn't that the pansies' mantra these days?

You sing it well.

Really? Do I need to recall the killing of US diplomats in Jordan by the PLO? or terrorism at Hebrew University, which killed 5 americans?

Funny, you people carp about Bush, but ignore the fact that Israel "waives past acts of terrorism" against them ALL the time.

They put all the blame on Arafat, because it is convenient to do so, but Arafat's right there, and what do they do about him? They shoot up his house, but otherwise: Nothing.

Why not? People carp at Pres. Bush because we "don't have UbL yet," but UbL is hiding in a hole somewhere and not able to do a d*mn thing to us. Arafat is RIGHT THERE, and the Israelis just let him alone. If we had UbL cornered in a house in Afghanistan or Pakistan, how long would he remain free, hm?

Why do the Israelis allow Arafat to remain free? Because when they nab him, and put him in the hole, and the terror continues, who are they going to have for their sycophantic little butt-kissers to blame? No one. Arafat is a convenient scape-goat, but only if he's free.

In 1998, Abu Abbas was in Gaza, and everyone knew it. He held press conferences where he said he was trying to do things differently, was "renouncing terror" as a means for political change. He met along with others of the P.A., and cast votes in their proceedings.

The Israelis did NOTHING to him. Why? Who knows.

They do things like this ALL the time, yet to you silly ninnies, they are just BRILLIANT.

Yet if BUSH, who has far, far more success so far in pulling terror organizations out by the roots than anyone else ever has, plays the finesse game, pseudo-intellects like you people are all over him.

What I want to know is this: Why are you so enamoured of Israel, and so contemptuous of the United States, and yet you continue to live here? Is it that you're cowards, and don't want to deal with the terror "over there?"

I mean, somebody 'splain this to me.

They are not a government, but a terrorist organization.

Before 1948, the Israeli government was a terrorist organization. What's your point?

Arab...particularly the Muslims....view the high art of treachery as a useful quality.

Yeah, unlike the Israelis, they of the U.S.S. Liberty and Jonathan Pollard and sales of U.S. technology to China.

. Obviously you're shooting from the hip and blind folded. Your assumptions on my political opinions are at best funny and short sighted.

George Bush is a great President. I thank "GOD" he's our Presidnt at this time in History. I will also thank "GOD" if another Liberal never gets elected to the office since they are the main reason this Country is going down the virtual toilet.

That said! I also thank "GOD" that you with all you mind reading and blind faith will never be in control of my safety.

Do you have any idea what was going on while the Japanese were planning to bomb Pearl Harbor?

Blind Faith as I call it! Trust your enemy as you call it.

WAKE UP

You remember the Soviet Union? They were OUR enemy, not Israel's enemy, and that's why Israel chose to sell our classified documents to them, that they had gotten through Jonathan Pollard. Prove it.

This is the second anti-Israel post I've seen you make today based on tinfoil hat conspiracy organic bull fertilizer. The first one was about the USS Liberty friendly fire incident.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and just credit you with ignorance, as opposed to intentional hate.

Do I need to remind you that we have Abu Abbas?

Who has Israel got?

Where's Arafat's head? Oh, the Israelis are letting him keep it, just as they let Abbas go in 1998.

You people are SO precious.

More obscure drivel.

Better to remain obscure so you can say "I told you so" no matter what happens, eh?

Yeah, unlike the Israelis, they of the U.S.S. Liberty and Jonathan Pollard and sales of U.S. technology to China.

Four, just brilliant.

Funny BTW, the Israelis have totally STOPPED weapons sales to China, as per a White House request.

Besides... Israeli companies are major US subcontractors, and Israel has a large export arms industry of domestically designed and produced armaments. Israel exports technology to the US, too, not all Israeli weapons are built on US technology. Weapons researched and designed in Israel using US money require US approval for export, such as the Arrow anti missile system, and Green Pine radar. Did you know that the Joint Strike Fighter is going to use an Israeli helmet, as Apaches do? They are the best in the world at helmet visualization systems.

Go ahead and say it. "Some of my best friends are Jewish." I know it's coming.

I'm with you, this sure seems to go against the "fighting terrorism" thing?! If you reward bad behavior, all you get is...you guessed it...more bad behavior. I don't see the logic of this at all.

Yep, I guess it's business as usual now that the Iraqi war is now mostly over. I hope GW has an angle, because I'm not seeing his logic here.

"Tinfoil hat conspiracies?"

The source of my information is Former SecDef Caspar Weinberger. Who you got?

At the time of the incident Weinberger stated for the record, that in his opinion Pollard's treachery was the worst intelligence disaster the U.S. had ever experienced (up to that time, that was before Aldrich Aimes and the Walkers and Hanson--all of whom did their share right along with Pollard).

From a 1999 interview with "Middle East Quarterly":

MEQ: You have been quoted saying that Jonathan Pollard "should have been shot." Is this accurate?

Weinberger: Any traitor who did what he did should be shot.

MEQ: You describe him as a traitor.

Weinberger: I thought Pollard did a very great deal of damage to the United States. The Walkers and others also did a very great deal of damage. My views here have nothing to do with his religion or his beliefs or anything of that kind. [ILLBAY NOTE: That's because, just as I've experienced here on these threads, you are not allowed to criticize Israel even when they stab you in the back. If you do, you're "anti-Semitic," as Sec. Weinberger also learned. There are many here whose major allegiance is to Israel, FIRST. They simply won't admit it; they throw up the "anti-Semitism" chaff instead of answering the charge]. There are some lawyers who have been paid to say, "Yes, but it wasn't treason." But avoiding all the technical definitions, I would simply say that his paid spying caused us a very great deal of additional problems in a difficult situation.

I said everything I knew about Pollard at the request of the United States District Court. I gave the judge an affidavit that was classified because it went into great detail about the extent of the damage that was done and the number of lives of our people that were endangered. That covered a lot of sources and methods at the court's request. Others seem to have seen it and talk about it very freely; I don't. I'm sort of an anachronism because I still respect classified documents.

MEQ: You are saying that calling Pollard a "traitor" is in the general sense, not in a lawyerly sense.

Weinberger: Whatever it is, that is only the smallest kind of footnote, if anything. How you define it technically is not as important as the fact that he did tremendous damage to us; how you want to define it technically doesn't really make any difference.

MEQ: Some people have become quite fixated on the word "traitor."

Weinberger: The rule is, I don't talk about this matter at all. What I had to say, I said at the court's request in the classified affidavit. I have nothing else to say. It's the damage that he did that counts. It wasn't just Pollard—Aldrich Ames and the Walkers and others also did tremendous damage. They all should be punished.

And if you do a search you'll find a hundred websites dedicated to "bringing Jonathan home" (by which they mean "to Israel"; kind of an odd thing, since he never lived there but is American. Like many here, his first allegiance was to Israel, not to his own nation. What do we call that?)

So you figure it out, "pal." And may I say that I'm sick to death of you people who put Israel's interests before our own. You won't emigrate there, because you're too cowardly to live someplace where you might get hurt. But you have no problem with defending or at least downplaying the traitorous acts of a man who did, as Sec. Weinberger (not Illbay) said: "a great deal of damage to us, and endangered the lives of our people."

All so Israel could get a few Russian Jews out of the Soviet Union--MANY OF WHOM TURNED OUT NOT EVEN TO BE JEWS.
