Every human being has the God-given right to live in freedom, for freedom is fundamental to realizing a quality life, a life of happiness free from the fear of persecution and oppression. Many liberals, however, refuse to acknowledge this basic human tenet: the tenet that all people are equal and deserve to live in freedom. The quality of life enjoyed by a free people is incomparably better than that of a life bound by subjugation.
The people of Iraq are on the path to freedom, thanks to the Allied Coalition. But Iraq is not the only country where tyranny and oppression rule. The U.N. has failed, as in the case of Iraq, to take steps to help oppressed people realize their basic God-given right. China, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Libya have delinquent regimes. The United States can not rely on the United Nations to take the necessary steps to cleanse the world of oppression; the U.N. is lost in its own hypocrisy. The United States should apply more pressure to these delinquent regimes since the U.N. will not.
The U.N.'s Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a poignant and emotionally-charged document, declaring the need for the acknowledgment and preservation of the most basic human rights throughout the world. Sadly, though, the document is but a piece of paper. It is only a piece of paper because the words are empty and there is no courage or willingness to fight for the freedoms the U.N. ostensibly praises.
The U.N. has reduced itself to a congregation of diplomats who favor listening to their own words over any sort of pragmatic action in the international community. The U.N. does not fight for freedom; the U.N. prefers to look the other way and to appease autocratic regimes--to act contrary to their purpose of existence. Is there anything worse than hypocrisy? The U.N. champions freedom yet refuses to liberate and apply economic pressure and force in the name of freedom. The duplicity of the U.N. is reprehensible. >>>Continued<<<
