Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Ollie says they were at a pharmaceutical plant and a Cobra helicopter crashed. Pilots OK and Ollie is stunned and says it's a miracle.

Checked out ammunition. Some "suspicious", some *look* to have a device that attaches and might be filled with liquid. Special team being called in to investigate.

Bump for great suspicious minds..I agree!

Some antiquities collectors don't care where the stuff comes--as long as *they* know it's authenticated. And it's untraceable cash to those selling.

I do hope they can send some forensic teams into those gov't buildings. They can recover info from charred paper. My worries are about the unrecoverable paper.

Some "suspicious", some *look* to have a device that attaches and might be filled with liquid.

That might be similar to what the Marines stumbled across in the HUGE armory they found south of Bahgdad. A weird looking missile with plugs in the end that "binary compounds" could be instilled into. We will see.

And thanks be to God for the safety of the pilots!

holy moly
I couldn't get onto FR for like an hour earlier, the page just would not load.
This was during the press conference and I had to watch the entire thing without being able to make fun of Torie's jacket!!!!!

it was like torture.

As to the museum, it makes absolutely no sense that they would leave those antiquities in a place they thought would be bombed. I suspect the museum was filled with copies already, Saddam's thugs having previously sold them or snuck them outta the country.

As to the orphanage, yes...God bless those sisters. But one thing disturbed me....6, 7 8 year old children in baby beds...a la the post-Iron curtain baby sales. I hope there was nothing wrong in this case, since having the sisters there alleviates my concerns somewhat.

This story should be widely publicized. There are lots and lots of parents looking to adopt and I bet those kids would be swooped up fast as you can say "bye bye Saddam".

OMG! Are any of you seeing this report on MSNBC about the 22 orphans kept safe by the nuns???

I missed it, too. MSNBC is telling these stories. Thank goodness. SOD Rumsfeld implored the press and the freed Iraqis to tell these stories. SO far, members of the press corps - whether CENTCOM, Pentagon or WH, have been more obsessed with spinning tiny and expected problems into daily "crises" and yet another attack on the Bush administration - than in the suffering of the Iraqi people under Saddam Hussein.

We should be celebrating as a country, as a world...this was a great victory...ticker tape parade worthy. How dare OUR press steal this from US?!

I admit,I was concerned, too ,about the cribs..If they can walk..they must walk.Perhaps my visions of Romania are misplaced. I did not see any sign of any thing else .It might have been for the benefit of the visit that they were all in cribs.

Ollie says they were at a pharmaceutical plant...

Perhaps a dual-use aspirin factory? At this point I would be willing to see Clinton score a couple of points for bombing the aspirin factory, if it would prove Jimmy Carter wrong.

That *is* torture. As was that jacket. ;-)

Oh man, check out what I came across on a random google...found another very very angry and verbose useful idiot blogging away -- if ya get bored, get your barf bag ready and look at www.angrybear.blogspot.com (a bear of VERY little brain and EVERYTHING seems to bother him, I should dig on this guy a little :p). Typical tripe.

I was looking for some Dennis Miller quotes, and found this guy's consternation at the good Mr. Miller's slight shift to the right (movement fromt the Big L to small l, is all, I say) to be highly amusing...:

"But I did finally watch Friday's Real Time with Bill Maher. Once again, it was very good. I've read a few posts here and there about how bad Dennis Miller--who I once enjoyed watching--has become, but I didn't realize he had sunk so low. He clearly spent some time preparing 5 to 10 rants in favor of Bush, against Clinton, and against the French. Here's a typical example of the new Miller [paraphrase]: "The only time Clinton likes the UN is when it's surrounded by a C and a T". Old Miller might have at least tried to make a point related to Bosnia and Clinton getting NATO approval instead of UN approval there. Not so the new Miller. Apparently in the wake of losing his HBO gig and then getting fired by CBS from his Monday Night Football gig, he has decided that there's big money in being a frothing and moronic conservative commentator (sadly, he may be right). Fortunately, Arianna Huffington (who generally leans a bit too much towards Nader policy-wise for me) did an excellent job of making Miller look like a fool."

When was the last time Arianna made anyone look like a fool but herself? :-) Hehehe.

And I got a good chuckle outta the Miller joke, which I hadn't heard before, I gotta admit (sorry, ladies *frown*).

(just saw Miller's March 1st 2003 show last night on HBO -- *stellar* -- especially throwing abortion into the mix and asking the lefties to consider operations in Iraq simply...a very late abortion. :p)

Note to self: This guy will have to write off Steve Martin as funny, too, after his potshots at France, Germany, & Michael Moore at the Oscars. How sad it is to see lifestyle liberals of hipness bemoan fallen idols that never really were on their side to begin with.
