Democratic congresswoman calls war an outdated concept: 'We have to do something about it'

Rep. Lynn Woolsey wants peace to have a better chance.

In ambitious legislation re-introduced in Congress this week, the Petaluma Democrat and 46 congressional co-authors have proposed the creation of a Department of Peace, a kind of counterbalance to the Department of Defense.

The Ministry of Peace.

That has such a charming sound to it.

And SO Orwellian.

In order that peace may prevail, you have to be ready to kick your opponent's @$$ hard enough to make his nose bleed. And once every so often, you have to carry out the promise. In the real world, whether it is called the Department of War, or Department of Defense, or Department of Peace & Love, the function remains the same. Protection of the Homeland.

We already have this. It is called the "Department of Defense".

Gee, I'm not entirely sure that self-defense needs to be balanced with--what, immediate surrender?

Personally, I'd rather change DoD's name back to "War Department."

Thus proving that they have no clue where peace comes from.

Of course, what they actually propose is a
Department of Appeasement and Surrender,
which we already have, although today it's called the
"Department of State".

I propose a Department of Normal.

Oh come on, liberals, you can do better than this! Just add all of the other Departments you want-- all at once:

1. Department of Peace

2. Department of Gun Safety/Control

3. Department of Children Advocacy

4. Department of Socialized Medicine

The lists go on and on..........

Department of Peace? Gimme a break! What're they gonna do . . . offer Syria's Assad Jr. -- "Saddam Hussein-lite" a bouquet of daisies and ask him . . . purty please . . . to stop murdering Israelis by financing and training Hezbollah zealots?

These feel-good liberals are the ONLY reasons dictators like Saddam take over in the first place. They claim to be so concerned about all the "innocents" killed in war . . . yet they say SQUAT about the innocents murdered by dictatorial regimes. And when jackasses like Spielberg say the eight hours he spent with Fidel Castro were "the eight most important hours of my life" one has to wonder if God had already used up His allotment of IQ when He got around to the liberals. Evidently, to Spielberg, Schindler's Jews are somehow more important in the scheme of Hollyweird things than are the thousands and thousands of Cubans Castro has murdered.

Department of Peace? Yeah, right. I'm sure Jacques ChIRAQ would welcome these dimwits with open arms.

I unfortenately live in Woolsey's district. She is so far to the left you can not see her from here. In fact see calls her self a Progressive which is a code word for the far left. Sonoma County, where I live, is very liberal. I guess the reason it is so liberal is the influence of the SF bay area, which is 40 miles south. I find it's liberalism a little strange because it is very white (for California), has a lot of hunters, and has a relatively affluent population. But then Marin County directly, south of us, is even more affluent and more liberal. When Woolsey got elected she bragged that she had been a welfare mother as if this was badge of honor.

In my former life, I had to go to her office to work when she was merely a City Council-"person" in Petaluma.

I was stunned to discover she had the brains of an ant.

Coincidently, I also did work at Babs Boxers office as well.

She made Woolsy look like Einstein.

Go figure.

BTW, I left Sonoma County for Sacramento and have NEVER looked back.

Once you get away from the coast, California is MUCH more conservative. I felt like the Lone Ranger in Petaluma.

But then Marin County directly, south of us, is even more affluent and more liberal.

Most people in Marin County fall into two categories: 1) low-income wealthy (those who bought their house 20 years ago) and 2) high-income poor (those who didn't and therefore spend every dime they make on housing). I suspect the former group is where one finds most of the affluent leftists.
