Hillary's book deal a scam?
BrookesNews.Com ^ | 8 April 2003 | Gerry Jackson

It has been reported that Simon and Schuster executives are in a panic because good old reliable Hillary has not turned in a complete manuscript of her book which is due for publication in August.

What is wrong with those liberal dummies at Simon and Schuster's? Don't they know that the $8 million deal they did with good old liberal Hillary was merely seen by her as a donation to her electoral war chest? Are these liberals so stupid that they did not realise that Hillary's idea of a deal is: I take, you give. Apparently not, which only goes to show how dumb liberals can be.

But the book deal had a rotten smell about it from day one. To recover its $8 million dollar investment in Hillary publisher Simon & Schuster would have to sell more than 3 million hardback copies. That would literally make publishing history, at least in America. Does anyone think for a moment that this is possible, least of all her prospective publisher? Yes, if she told the truth about the rape of Broaddrick, the rake offs, the selling of state secrets, the Foster suicide, the White Water scandal, and various other frauds and criminal activities. But of course, Hillary is as big a liar as Bill and just as good.

There was also the obvious conflict of interest that America's liberal media chose to overlook. (Not that such niceties ever cut any ice with the Clintons and their rabid supporters).

Not only is Viacom Inc. Simon & Schuster's parent company it also has numerous media interests, including ownership of CBS. It is also no secret that those who run Viacom are very close to the Clintons.

Now $8 million dollars is big money in any language and no matter how supportive Party donors have been they are not that generous, not even the loony Streisand. In any case, a coporate donation of that size would have been bound to raise far too many eyebrows. So why not contrive an $8 million book deal? The great advantage for this from Hillary's corporate supporters is that Viacom's shareholders would have paid for it. She gets $8 million and they get taken to the cleaners. A perfect Clinton scam.

Of course, for the scam to work a book would still have to be produced and that means hiring a ghost writer. It appears that though a writer was hired the manuscript still remains in an incorporeal form, so to speak.

I would guess that it is not the money that is causing panic at Simon and Schuster but the fear that people, particularly shareholders, perhaps, might get the idea that Hillary's cavalier disregard for the publishing house, despite the huge payout, is evidence that the arrangement was a scam from day one.

Rush was talking about this today. Thinks she is waiting to see how the war goes so she can get her "support" in print. Did this publisher REALLY expect a book?

If she titles the book "Hillary's Guide to Ethical Theory", it will not take long to write.

If I were managing this property, I would be very interested in getting as much back from Hillary as possible and simply walking away from the project. The world has changed dramatically since the contract was signed and the property is no longer worth what it once was.

They can probably write it off as a loss and not lose anything.

If you pay Hillary 2.5 million in cash and then have to write it off, you have a loss that offsets 2.5 million in profit. If tax rates are 30%, you avoid $750,000 in taxes. So are still out $1.75 million after the write-off.

If you are going to have an expense, it's better to be a write off because it only costs you 70% on the dollar after the tax savings rather than 100%. But it's always better not to have the expense in the first place and have to pay the taxes.

The money paid to Hillary was not an expense, it was an investment & a payoff rolled into one. A payoff for favors done by X-42 and an investmest for future favors from (s)Hill.

I suspect, by the time this has played out, the executives who decided to front this money for Hillary will have gotten their investment back tenfold or more.

In other news. When the Marines stormed the palace in Baghdad this morning the furniture was missing. See if Hillary knows where it might be.

Uh, I think that was the whole point of the deal - not that a book would actually be written, but that it would provide a safe, slick & LEGAL way for the Clinton's Viacom friends to make an $8 million "contribution".
