He could consider Basra a success and mention that. How about encouraging other Muslim soldiers to frag their officers tents? That is something Saddam would be crowing about if alive. He could mention alot of little "successes" that are verifiable other than the "farmer incident"... which has only been "vetted" by Iraqi TV.

You're assuming that Saddam would be obsessed with proving he's alive, just because we're obsessed with finding out if he's alive. Iraqis' perceptions are not the same as our perceptions. They've been through two wars with this guy -- one that lasted eight years and claimed hundreds of thousands of lives. They understand how he operates. He isn't going to dance to the Pentagon press officers' tune.
