Another thread up on FR right now touts it as "live". I'm not watching the tube, so I have no idea.

One thought I did have was he could be referring to the "farmer/helicopter" incident because it is the only success they've accomplished during the entire war, LOL.

But it would still be easy to just hold up a newspaper if he wanted the truth to be known as to exactly what date the tape was made or when the broadcast originated.

He could consider Basra a success and mention that. How about encouraging other Muslim soldiers to frag their officers tents? That is something Saddam would be crowing about if alive. He could mention alot of little "successes" that are verifiable other than the "farmer incident"... which has only been "vetted" by Iraqi TV.

According to intelligence, Saddam always tapes his speeches he delivers to the Iraqi people. Andrea Mitchell said her sources believe this tape could be current.

They could have easily "planted" the earlier story about a farmer shooting down a helicopter. I mean, it sounds pretty goofy to me. They could have said it, knowing that they had a tape of Saddam in the can that mentions the story.
If Saddam is not dead yet, he will be soon and if he IS alive, he sure is a crappy war planner!
