This morning a general called in all of Saddam's body doubles. He said "I've got some good news and I've got some bad news."
The good news is Saddam is still alive and you've all still got a job. The bad news is he's lost his left arm and leg.
Imagine Piece- a piece of Saddam here, a piece of Saddam there.

Saddam doesn't need to be obsessed about proving he is alive. The fact that he doesn't brag about propaganda victories proves this tape doesn't prove snot.
He would congradulate the Fedayeen for harassing the supply lines. He would encourage the folks in Basra to keep holding on to the city. That is just common blather, that would also have the benefit of confirming his pulse, but he hasn't done it.
Instead, he mentions an incident manufactured by Iraqi TV which is much less impressive than holding onto Basra.

The corpses of Mussolini, his mistress Claretta Petacci, and his henchmen are hanged in Piazzale Loreto in Milan on public display, April 29, 1945. They had been executed the day before some 50 miles to the north in Mezzegra and were now offered to the people who spat on the corpses and kicked them. They were then hanged by the feet. In medieval Italy it was the custom to hang crooks or embezzlers, by one foot. The fact that Mussolini was hung by two feet suggests the deep level of rage and betrayal felt by the people towards their once beloved "Duce". (credit: National Archives, USA)

Yes, he did - reminded the populace that even antiquated weapons can kill Americans; told them to hit the streets, since U.S. forces are only in small groups, having avoided the mighty Iraqi Army. Our mulitple groups of 1000+ vehicle calvarys near Baghdad are not exactly small groups considering the Republican Guard may not even have 300 operating vehicles total in all of Iraq.

I didn't watch it, but Saddam - who was a student of the film Blackhawk Down - might have "canned" a message with the presumption that a farmer would somewhere/somehow shoot down a helicopter like in Somalia, with small arms fire. Making such an untimely claim is highly suspicious to me.

Why didnt they release this tape if this was prerecorded and use it when that chopper went down? I think he is dead myself, but it just seems dumb they would pull this tape out now after so long removed from that incident.

If those dancing babbling goofballs would have been close enough to shoot down an Apache Longbow with rifle fire, they'd have captured or killed the pilots. The CWOs would have been filmed with the chopper. The pilots were captured sometime later.
Farmers don't have AK-47s in Saddam Hussein's Iraq. He's not a big 2nd Amendment guy. That landscape the Apache went down in didn't look like primo farming area, either.

"Andrea Mitchell said her sources believe this tape could be current."
Andrea's sources? Who was she talking to? Dr. Greene in the ER with Saddam or the Grim Reaper "live" from the river Styx?

What part of "body doubles" do those reporting NOT understand?

Don't kid yourself. He's alive. Aziz would have bolted long ago if his patron had been killed in that opening shot.

I still say that Saddam would crow about the muslim soldier fragging incident if he was alive to talk about it. Anybody come up with a good reason why he wouldn't discuss it, if still breathing?
