The M1 Garand and the M14 are basically the same weapon. The one of the main difference is the M1 fires the 30-06 round and the M14 fires a .308 Also the M14 takes a magazine. ( a clip and a magazine are not the same thing ) And to make matters more confusing the civilian version of the M14 is called the M1A
