Nevertheless, in the direct assault on Berlin, the experienced Soviet forces suffered nearly 80,000 dead and close to a quarter-million wounded in about three days of fighting.

The article leaves the ignorant reader confused, on purpose. The Germans left to fight in Berlin feared the Red's more than death. The Germans in Berlin held off the Red Army in hope of surrendring to the Americans coming in from the West.

This article pretends to be "intellectual". It is actually opinion, masquerading as analysis.

So.....one might replace "Reds" with "Saddam" and YOU think it's only opinion. Of course, yours is more valid!

Not more, maybe not even as valid. But just as valid, nevertheless, as any opinion sans fact. The article is still opinion, based on historical background, that leaves out some important details.

If you want your posted article validated, OK. It is a good example informed speculation.
However, until the battle is over, it is, after all, only opinion.
