Andrew Sullivan's comments: ---------------------------------------- ANOTHER EPIPHANY: Another peace campaigner - also an Assyrian Christian - comes home from Iraq and recants his opposition to war:
I wept with family members as I shared their pain and with great difficulty and deep soul searching began little by little to understand their desire for war to finally rid them of the nightmare they were living in.
The terrible price paid in simple, down to earth ways - the family member with a son who just screams all the time, the family member who lost his wife who left unable to cope anymore, the family member going to a daily job with nothing to do, the family member with a son lost to the war, a husband lost to alcoholism, the daily, difficult to perceive slow death of people for whom all hope is lost.
The pictures of Sadaam Hussein whom people hailed in the beginning with great hope everywhere. Sadaam Hussein with his hand outstretched. Sadaam Hussein firing his rifle. Sadaam Hussein in his Arab Headdress. Sadaam Hussein in his classic 30 year old picture - one or more of these four pictures seemed to be everywhere on walls, in the middle of the road, in homes, as statues - he was everywhere!
All seeing, all knowing, all encompassing.
"Life is hell. We have no hope. But everything will be ok once the war is over." The bizarre desire for a war that would rid them of the hopelessness was at best hard to understand.
"Look at it this way. No matter how bad it is we will not all die. We have hoped for some other way but nothing has worked. 12 years ago it went almost all the way but failed. We cannot wait anymore. We want the war and we want it now."
Eventually, fair-minded people will see the truth about this war and its profound moral justification. Read the whole thing.

Amazing isn't it...
I had a friend who is against this war, and told me we're doing the same thing to the Iraqis that we did to the Russians... Deamonize them, so we can go to war.
I just want to hit him upside the head.
How can people be so damned blind to what's going?
I've had enough of their self-rightous BS.
Maybe this article will shock him back to reality!

It's lies! Lies! All Lies!!!
They're just imagining it, Saddam is a great guy, a wonderful guy! He wouldn't do anything mean or bad to his people! The peace protesters say so!!!!
Excellent post - thanks!

More than enough information to identify the border guard, the taxi driver and some of the people in the chruch. What might this article do for them? I would imagine execution if they and their families are lucky.

I just hope Barbara & ABC don't somehow put a "spin" on the videotapes or edit them in some way. They need to be SEEN. This is a wonderful testimony and evidently God was at work when that guard returned the tapes to Mr. Joseph.

This is a terrific article. I'm waiting to see the tapes. Hopefully the ABC liberal group doesn't twist the tapes to aid and abett the anti-war protestors.
The organizers of the anti-war protestors will not believe what they see and certainly not what they read in this article. Their agenda is much more aminous. During the riots in Seattle during the WTO the leaders told us THEN what they had in mind and we're watching it everyday on tv the worldwide organization they have put together.
I am grateful this article has been posted, and no matter how many times it is, there are some who have missed it and I think it should be read by everyone.

I saw an ABC special last night that was very mixed. If you only watched the first part, it sounded anti-war (Iraqi kids grown up talking about how terrifying the bombing is). But the rest of it was these adults talking about how terrifying it is to live in Iraq from day to day (the father of one of the "kids" was an Iraqi official who was assassinated by Saddam), how the children aren't really children there because of the weight of silence on their shoulders, how they want the war to happen, and how they're praying for the freedom of their fellow Iraqis.
I guess they were trying to be objective.

That was very moving.
Thank's for posting it.
