There's a hell of a lot missing from this story.

What exactly was the information they were phoning back?

The embedded reporters have strict rules about releasing tactical information that would be helpful to the enemy. I suspect these guys were violating those rules.

"...The two teamed up with a Portuguese TV reporter, rented a jeep, and entered Iraq on their own, driving alongside American convoys. They phoned in reports based on conversations with U.S. troops and Iraqis..."
"...the Americans advised them not to move because they would not be identified in the dust and the troops had orders to shoot at almost anything that moves..."
"...Yediot Aharonot, concerned about loss of contact with the journalists, asked the Pentagon to help find them...."

What are they?
A bunch of Dumb Asses?

Even if this account is totally true, which I doubt, they got off a million times better than an independant journalist under Saddam's regime.

What part of spy don't they understand. Lucky they met up with the good guys. They would be lying in a ditch with bullets in their heads.

Just because they were journalists, doesn't mean they weren't spying. If they had no ID, what do you say,,,,"Er, Sir, please wait here. You are not authorized to be here. Now be a good boy, and don't report our movements etc. We know you are probably telling the information to a friendly, as you couldn't possibly be an Iraqi etc." Beating the bejesus out of them is the humane way compared to what the Sodimists do. Glad our guys are doing it. The spys, that is exactly what they were, are lucky they weren't shot.

They should be jailed under harsh conditions until the war is over and then stand trial.

entered Kuwait without proper accreditation.

Sneak into a war zone and takes your chances.
They are lucky if they still have all body parts attached.

You ignore the rules, deal with the consequences.
