Stop overreacting. Kolja isn't saying anything beyond the pale, and Russia has a lot more experience trying to deal with what we're facing.

I need better than that. We don't execute prisoners, I know that, I've been there and done that. We don't do that!

Kolja,

I hope this story today isn't true. It is VERY bad if the Russian government knew about this and allowed it to happen.

U.S. protests against Russian arms sales to Iraq

Reuters | Sunday, March 23, 2003

WASHINGTON, March 23 (Reuters) - The United States said on Sunday it had protested to Moscow about reports that Russian firms have sold Iraq antitank missiles, night vision goggles and jamming gear.

A State Department spokeswoman said Moscow's response had not been satisfactory.

U.S. and British forces are fighting Iraq in an effort to topple Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and to find and destroy Iraq's suspected weapons of mass destruction. Iraq has denied it has such weapons.

The Washington Post reported on Sunday that the United States recently delivered a protest to the Russian government for refusing to stop Russian arms dealers from providing illegal weapons and assistance to the Iraqi military.

The newspaper cited Bush administration sources as saying one Russian company was helping the Iraqi military to deploy electronic jamming equipment against U.S. planes and bombs and two others have sold antitank missiles and thousands of night-vision goggles in violation of U.N. sanctions.

The sources told the newspaper Moscow had ignored U.S. concerns about the potential threat to U.S. forces.

"We regard this as a very serious matter," State Department spokeswoman Brenda Greenberg said. "We thus have raised this issue with the Russian government a number of times, including at senior levels and particularly over the past two weeks. The response so far has not been satisfactory.

"We hope that the responsible Russian agencies will take our concerns seriously," she said. "We are very concerned about reports that Russian firms are selling militarily sensitive equipment to Iraq. Such equipment in the hands of the Iraqi military may pose a direct threat to U.S. and coalition armed forces."

Greenberg declined to say if the Washington Post report was accurate, saying she could not discuss intelligence matters.

Hope these brave soldiers are rescued when are forces take the town. My prayers to the familys of those who were lost.

I am proud of our fighting men and women. They are fighting the hard fight and winning.

George W. told us this would be a hard fight. That is from the top. Are men and women are going to fight harder and disarm this regime and liberateration of Iraq will be the icing on the cake.

It sounds absolutely awful.

I heard that we have suffered casualties or have missing soldiers in Nasirayha (sp?) too. My husband said the Iraqis put women and children in front of targets to prevent our guys from shooting. Sounds like some ambushing going on too and the news said lots of MediVacs flying in and out.

Oh man, did this take a turn for the worse or what?

The world would know it if we were trully as evil as we are accused of being.

Hmmm.... that gives me an idea... maybe we, as a nation, should become as evil as the world thinks we are, then when they really get riled up and such, we can say, "Ok... maybe you'd like us to go back to the way we were before? And this time, you'll quit the bitchin'?" ;0)

I've stuck with CNN only because Rumsfeld is still the guest.

Wolf just named the three leaders believed killed in the initial strike and one was Tariq Aziz.

He asks Rumsfeld if he can confirm. Rumsfeld: "No, I can't".

We need to send in a brigade and take the entire town, house by house.

We will win. Remember this is war and we are fighting against an evil regime. Now, my husband has had a problem with the way support/logistical troops are trained. They don't have Bradley fighting vehicles. Many just have five ton trucks and M16s so hopefully they are going to be beefing up the defenses of all our troops, not just combat.

The fear is that we are more dangerous than Saddam is unfounded, though I can understand why people would be nervous about outsiders coming in.

Other American soldiers are missing in Nassariyah. We need to send in a brigade and take the entire town, house by house.

Agreed, I hope that our troops surround the area to prevent the escape of anyone, and then take action to weed out those responsible.

There was a clear reason why we kept a single round in our pockets in the Nam. No POW!
