In WWII he would have been shot by firing squad after a rapid courtmartial.

I've read the SAME thing you have! However, I also heard the two reporters on the scene on t.v. and NEITHER one mentioned gunfire! That's all I'm saying. Lou Dobbs heard gunfire as he was disconecting from the guy at the scene, but it turned out to be coming from the Baghdad feed. There very well may have been grenades and shots fired, but I'd bet the shots were fired at the person(s) as they ran away.
