The reporters on the ground (I've heard two, one from Time and one from Sky News) NEVER mentioned gunfire. The gunfire rumor probably started when CNN guy thought he heard gunshots before getting disconnected from the reporter on the scene (Time). It turned out that the line had already been disconnected and the CNN guy had just heard the feed coming in from Baghdad AAA.

No, that is incorrect. It was reported that the officers saw the grenade and returned fire from the perp or perps.

I guess now you are going to ask me where I saw it reported. Geez, I have been flipping around so much, I forget.
