Thanks for the article, Utah Girl. I had read a similar one from this same KSL which was posted by Kim4VRWC's on another thread (post #60, New Details on Campsite....MUST READ.) It was dated Mar. 17 and specifically mentioned boards covered with dirt.

The above article doesn't mention "boards covered with dirt", specifically. It does mention searchers on the ground did not see anything out of the ordinary which seems to imply ground searchers were in the area (Elizabeth could hear them calling). It does say that the three of them hid in the hole. What I have been questioning is: how could the 3 of them be hidden in that hole and dirt still remain on top of the boards. Devil Anse and I have theorized that perhaps Mitchell put Liz and what's-her-face in the hole, placed the boards on top of the hole and then covered the boards with dirt. But then, there would be only 2 in the hole, and it seems like that dirt in and around the area would be disturbed. If you put 3 in the hole, Mitchell could from the underside put boards on top, but where does the dirt come from to camouflage the boards from the ground searchers? Am I making any sense?

I'm sorry that I've forgotten the name of that particular thread, but it seems that it is "Smart Coverage...(something another).

I sure don't know those types of details. The cave or hole could have had a very narrow opening and then widened so that three people could stay in there. I'm sure that when Chris Thomas refers to the searchers not being able to sleep now because they didn't find Elizabeth and she could hear them calling her name, one of them is her uncle, Dave Smart. I know that he did everything in his power to help find her, including searching for her in the mountains. He almost lost his business because he was so focused on finding her. So I do believe that if he would have seen anything untoward, he probably would have investigated himself, if not, he would have called the police.

The Utah mountains are really rugged. My family owns a cabin in the mountains, it sits on the side of a mountain, with a lot of trees around it. In the area, there are 500 cabins, but it does feel secluded. Down below our cabin is a stream that is common use, can be used by anyone. We can hear the stream from the cabin, but when you go down to the stream, you can't see the cabin. And they might be 75 yards apart, at that. Anyway, I'm just babbling here so I'll quit.
