SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Christopher Boyce, whose Cold War spying was immortalized on film in "The Falcon and the Snowman," is ready for release after more than a quarter-century in prison. Boyce is scheduled to be released from federal custody Saturday, but officials said it was likely he would be released on Friday.

I don't understand why someone like this should EVER be released from prison.

He was tried and sentenced during the limp-wristed days of the Carter Administration.

The real crime was the how the CIA let a 22 year old cokehead intern get to so much classified material.

Boyce made headlines in 1980 when he escaped from federal prison in Lompoc. He was free for 19 months, supporting himself by robbing banks in the Pacific Northwest. He was arrested in Port Angeles, Wash.Seems like a good candidate for parole.

I hope someone has a nice reception planned for him...

I hope someone has a nice reception planned for him It's San Fran. They'll probably give him a fruit basket. Then they'll whisk him to Berkeley for their annual Saddam Hussein award for patriotism.

I wondered how he plans to "support" himself in his golden years.

That was a really good movie. Sean Penn's a jackass, but the kid could act.
BTW, over a quarter century for the crimes of a 22-year-old intern seems OK to me. His superiors should have been in jail longer.
But shouldn't he now be going back to jail for robbing banks?
