Dixie Chick Explains Bush Slam At London Concert
The KCRA Channel ^ | Unattributed

Posted on 03/13/2003 2:28:48 PM PST by IowaHawk

One of the Dixie Chicks is clarifying remarks she made about President George W. Bush during a concert in London earlier this week.

Reporting on a Chicks' concert, the Web site for the United Kingdom paper The Guardian said singer Natalie Maines (pictured, center) told the crowd, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."

The singer's barb got the audience cheering, the Guardian said.

In a statement on the Chicks' Web site Wednesday, Maines said, "We've been overseas for several weeks and have been reading and following the news accounts of our government's position. The anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding."

The country trio -- consisting of Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Robinson -- are all from Texas.

"I feel the president is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world," Maines said in the statement. "My comments were made in frustration and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."

And while Maines maintains her beef with Bush, she's much more supportive of the United States troops.

"While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost," Maines said.

Whether Maines expresses her feelings about Bush on the group's North American leg of their Top of the World tour is yet to be heard. If she does, it will be in front of a lot of people.

According to music site Lauch, the group sold out 51 out of the 59 arenas in one day on March 1, which amounted to over 867,000 tickets.

The group recently won four Grammy awards including Best Country Album for their smash album "Home."

Yeah! Like "Joe Millionaire" when the producers put "mmmm" and "(slurp)" as subtitles to the action. I don't mind fakery per se, but don't pass off fakery as truth when it's obvious, and expect to get away with it. Hey, kind of like Natalie Maines herself.

Uh-oh. Oh, no. Mmmm-hmm!

You might as well give up listening to Dolly and Willie Nelson too, then. Both are big-time lefties, and Dolly is even good pals with Jane Fonda.

No way! say it isn't so!! But has she been unsuportive of our prez? Has Willie? What, when?

It is too late. Hopefully, they will be finished. When I first heard them, I thought they sounded good but when the chick made those stupid comments, they were findished in my book. Kaput! They are done.

United States Code
United States Congress

Here's what the United States Code has to say about treason.

Title 18 Section 2381. Treason

Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or
adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United
States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall
be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not
less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the
United States.

NO. What I disagree with is the sentiment that it would be better if we all sat around a campfire, sang "Kumbaya" (or whatever the hell that nitwit song is), and tried to "feeeeel" for the others, we'd be so much happier and safer... Consider the following statement by this vacuous bimbo:

"While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost."

Nothing, perhaps, except letting some fanatical Muslim extremist into the country, with a vial of Anthrax... Especially when said vial is glass with a rubber or cork stopper.... I.e., UNDETECTABLE by current security devices... the clown gets on a plane, goes to a western nation, drops that (or some other biological agent) into the water supply, and nobody will know until people start dying....

Another stupid statement by her,

"I feel the president is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world,"

Once again, the USA takes the lead to defend the world- from such possible terrorist attacks. If we are ignoring the "opinions of many in the U.S.," she's right- those that are too weak or stupid to defend themselves, survive at the good graces of their betters. If that means alienating them- hurting their tender feelings, so that their survival is assured, than FINE. Being apart from stupid people is not exactly something I worry about...

And if she wants to blatantly display her stupidity and lack of appreciation for HER betters... Than she will never receive any money from me, for her product... Yes, she has the right to voice her mind... But she doesn't have the right to not suffer the consequences of such statements.

The farther you are from Texas, the closer you are to France,so why not stuff your hillbilly music, and kiss my redneck ass.

Now THAT's a good country lyric.

Has anyone already bought tickets to one of their concerts, and are now regretting it? You can't take them back for a refund unless the venue cancels the concert. But if you bought the tickets with a credit card (as most people probably do), you still have an option.

If your tickets are being delivered by mail, and you have not received them yet, when you do, mark "return to Sender" on the envelope and send it back. Then notify your credit card company that you never received the tickets, and have them remove the charge from your account. The credit card company must do this! It is then up to the vendor to prove that you did receive them. Without that proof (certified delivery, return receipt etc.), the credit card company will not reinstate the charge.

If you have already received the tickets by mail, you can do the same thing as long as you didn't have to sign for the tickets. Of course, you can't use the tickets after this without getting into legal trouble. Once you verify that the charge has been reversed, burn the tickets.

If you picked them up in person and paid with a credit card, you still might be able to have the charges reversed. Credit card companies will reverse charges for services if you are not satisfied with the service. You could claim that the concert is no longer what you originally bargained for when you bought the tickets - that the product or service is now damaaged or tarnished in your eyes. Again, once you dispute the charge, the credit card company must reverse the charge and it is the responsibility of the vendor to prove that the charge is valid.

I thought of this because my fiancee just went through something like this. She is a lawyer, and she had a client that didn't like what my fiancee told her. My fiancee told her exactly what she could expect to get in court, did all of the paperwork and prepared for the court appearance. The client decided to get another lawyer, and almost a year later, disputed the credit card charge stating that she was dissatisfied with the service my fiancee provided. They took the money out of her account immediately, and she was unable to get them to reinstate the charge, even though she was able to prove that the client got in court exactly what my fiancee told her she would get, even with a new lawyer.

So spread the word, Freepers!

Hey Sneakypete --- sorry this post is late-- but to your objection to mine and others' reference to throwing our Dixie Chick CDs away, here are my most excellent reasons for doing this:

1. For the same reason I don't go see Alec Baldwin movies, etc. I don't want to see these damn things on my shelf any more. It will only serve to annoy me.

2. They profited from the purchase, but by continuing to play them they will continue to build brand equity. What if my neighbors were to hear the music coming from my house and go buy their CDs? By throwing them away I can no longer promote them in any fashion.

3. I enjoy a spiteful, frivolous gesture as much as the next loony patriot!

Chuck the Dixie Ficks!!!!! :-)

Yeah. But like a new paint-job on an old car, what they look like doesn't mean much... Pretty paint, but a blown engine...

Kick 'em to the curb...

I don't know. She seems to keep quiet about her personal life and her beliefs. Her "dumb blonde" act is nothing but a act. She really is a very bright lady. I just know she is good friends with Jane Fonda.

Has Willie? What, when?

I don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to bet he has. Willie is a hard-leftie. He supported Jesse Jackson in the Dim primaries the last time he ran. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So she saw a chance to get some new fans and sell some more records.
