You're right that anyone full of bitterness is to be pitied. Bitterness is a cancer that eats the heart and soul of a person and it is sad when any human being is consumed by it.

That being said, I see a difference between feeling sorry for someone and having pity for them. I haven't quite found that soft spot in me that will allow even a teensy-weensy bit of sympathy for Helen. My hat's off to you for being able to do so!

Well, I think of my Grandma and how happy and positive she was up until Alzhemier's claimed her. And I look at Helen, or any elderly person, who live such a bitter life and I can't help but feel sorry her. It makes me wonder if she has any love or joy in her life. And again, if she doesn't, that is where the pity comes from.
