Your analysis is faithful but weak.

Pearl Harbor has no navies that can attack it.

It is unlikely to be subject to a military attack.

But, a terrorist attack is entirely possible (especially given the weak security at Kauai and Maui airports).

I didn't think Al Qaeda or Iraq had subs.

"the Hawaiian legislature having voted a "NO WAR" motion or something"

That was the Phillipines, I think.

But certainly the whole concept of "No War" motions is absurd.

In port, not much of the sub sticks out above the water, they are not a big target. In the water, submerged, I think they could outrun an airplane, pretty easily.

Actually, a sub moves slower under water than above water (since the resistance of the denser H2O acts as more significant drag than a partially-submerged sub experiences), so no submarie -- fully or partially submerged -- could "outrun" an aircraft.

That said, I'd have to say that the idea of an aircraft trying to nose-dive into a submarine is pretty damned ridiculous. There are far larger radiologic targets that don't move that would prove far more appealing to terrorists bent on such an attack. Take your average, stationary nuclear power plant for example.

All told, I'd have to say this story is nothing more than alarmist poppycock. And I for one am damned well sick and tired of all these alarmist headlines that later prove to be false. The media -- and ESPECIALLY MATT DRUDGE -- should take a lesson from the old story about the boy who cried wolf.

"I think they could outrun an airplane, pretty easily."

You are not suppose to know that.

Well, you'd have to hijack a plane at Honolulu. Ships in port don't have their radars on...heck, I believe an AEGIS radar is actually a health hazard if it's on and you're near it. If one could hijack and control a plane now (extremely doubtful) you could probably get one to Pearl before a ship got the radar fired up and ready to go.

...BILL GERTZ: Pearl Harbor Attacks Report came out before the Arrest of this Al Qaeda Leader in his sleep.

This whole plan sounds audacious, even for Al Qaeda. The attack would likely be for symbolism, rather than mass casualties. Or, to say "we can hit even the carriers of your most powerful weapons".

He was all about how he shouldn't have asked questions about Saddam gassing his own people. It was quite an interview.....Kurtz even said to his face that a lot of people had even used the word "traitor" in conjunction with the interview!

A sub can go down sufficiently deep that a plane could never hit it.

Drudge misses the weakest link in security in Hawaii.

The airport security on Maui and Kauai is really weak.

Major airlines have fully-loaded 757's flying non-stop from the two islands. Those planes would be loaded and fueled for flight to SF and LA.

There isnt any way these people are ever going to be able to hijack another airliner again, unless its a FEDX or UPS plane that has no passengers, I wouldnt worry a bit about this.
