Do French schools teach their children about the ultimate sacrifice that hundreds of thousands of Americans gave in blood in order to save France twice during the last century? My money says that the French do not.

That, again, we weren't paying sufficient attention in the early days, not listening when the Ayatollah Khomeini, 22 years before September 11, 2001, came to power with "Death to America" as his battle cry?

Q. Which nation provided santuary to Khomeini until the Shah of Iran was overthrown in Iran?
A. France

Probably.

They certainly do, for Australia. They've built all kinds of memorials over there and honour the sacrifice of our soldiers in WWI on a special day every year. I'd be very surprised to hear they wouldn't have the same respect for American dead.

Of course, after threads like this, you couldn't blame any French reader for a lessening of that remembrance.
