SAN FRANCISCO POST-RALLY THREAD! (Biggest rally so far---60 people!)
2/16/03 | SeenTheLight

Posted on 02/16/2003 6:27:50 PM PST by SeenTheLight

It's been quite a day for Bay Area FReepers and friends! There's a lot to cover, but I'm gonna keep it brief and just get the ball rolling for comments and input.

The big news is that we had our largest counter-protest yet! We did a head-count at the peak of the protest and we ended up counting close to 60 people! Keep in mind, two rallies ago we had about 7 people and last time, we had 15. So we've come a long way! It looks like all the extra media outreach we did really paid off. Most of the non-FReepers that joined us heard about it on KSFO, so we've got to give a big shout out to our friendly neighborhood conservative radio station!

When we first arrived, we discovered a major hitch in our plans. The City Hall steps, where we were supposed to meet, were blocked off with a line of buses parked in front. We convened in front of the buses (on McAllister) and stayed there for quite a while. But the "peace protesters" soon had us backed against the wall of buses. The police officers were worried about our safety, so they herded us down to the corner, where we set up shop on the grassy knoll. It ended up being better than the City Hall steps. We had our own corner, which was blocked off to the rabble and the police were protecting us. Next time, I think we should make that our meeting spot.

Some engaged in arguments, others yelled back and forth, and some of us just made our presence known. I spent a lot of time talking and getting to know my fellow counter-protesters and just ignored the hordes of rabid peaceniks, so I had a great time!

Thanks to comwatch, who had set up some cell phone numbers with the David Gold show on KSFO, we did several interviews live. Mine was brief, but very energetic--with the FReepers chanting USA in the background! A few other people also did interviews with KSFO and we all took part in media outreach with whoever was listening! Channel 7 interviewed one of us and I just saw the very brief coverage of it about 15 minutes ago! Other than that, I haven't heard a word about us, despite our large numbers and growing presence.

I can't think of all the FReeper names to thank right now, but let's just say the Bay Area Chapter was in almost full attendance, plus flagbrigade and his folks and of course comwatch and other Sacto FReepers.

Afterwards, a bunch of us went for drinks, political organizing and laughs. So a good time was had by all!

Please add your comments, photos, ect...

Thanks everyone for all your help and great work!

Good photo but the caption is typically dismissive and nonsensical...

Counter protesters gather in front of city hall to voice their opposing opinions. Demonstrators considered the lack of counter protesters unsurprising.

But...how can there be a lack of counter protesters, if they were counter protesters gathered in front of City Hall? Oh, never mind...the answer to that would require commonsense!

But this does appear to be a pattern among the liberal media, in terms of covering or not covering counter-protests. They post photos of counter-protesters (like the Chron) and simultaneously deny they were there. I give up!

Thanks for doing this. The anti-American protesters seem to have forgotten the saying "Hate the war, not the warrior." I don't hate either, but that's the least the protesters could do.

That's ironic. Please thank your wife for joining us by the way. She seemed very shaken by all the hatred and vitriol she encountered from the "peace" protesters. Maybe the experience will sway her over to our side! But seriously, we've done this a few times, so we're used to it, but for the uninitiated, the hatred of the left can come as a shock. At this point, NOTHING surprises me anymore!

Oh yeah, that's typical of the lefties, who hate Israel almost as much as they hate America. In fact, it may be more! They're International Jewish Conspiracy Theorists, to whom everything comes back to Israel.

This one guy was yelling "Zionist Pigs" at us and I yelled back "Jew-Hating Bastard!" A good time was had by all!

Interesting that the linked article didn't have any pictures of the protesters, though...

That's true. Maybe we were just more photogenic!

And no, I didn't feel in danger either, although I was certainly attentive a few times when certain members of the rabble (Anarchy types, Arab teenagers who last time claimed they wanted to "kill all the Jews!") were nearby.

Signing off---my night owl energy is fading...

Congrats on your work. I still am disgusted that only 60 turned out.

So how big of counter protest has Florida Freepers had in response to all of the national antiwar protests?

Yes

And they call it NEWS?

It was part of a report on the demonstrations, and how they are helping Saddam. We (comwatch???) got some air time as a demonstration the "feelings" are not universal.

Following so closely on the heels of the Chronicle (the CHRONICLE!?!!?) saying there weren't that many protesters is remarkable...

Thanks for the ping, N&V. You are right, this is a GOOD thing... this was really all I wanted -- some indication that there ARE other opinions out there, not just the anti's! Thanks for the photos, too! :-)

It's not so much what was said. It's that anything from the anti-Saddam crowd was shown.

The cracks in the dyke (it is San Fransisco) are starting to show.

Truth is starting to leak out on major outlets.

Incontinently it will burst forth and wash away the lies, distortions, and half truths.

The tides turn, the Future is ours!

No, sorry. I wasn't exactly expecting any counter balance to the usual press bias...
