What is the significance of the blue star on the white background, with a red border? Is it a banner showing you have a family member in the war zone?

Blue Star Service Banners Created in 1917, Blue Star Service Banners were a common site during WWI and WWII. The banner is displayed to show that a family member is currently serving in the Armed Forces. I have one currently flying on my door. The more stars, the more family members serving.
Gold Star Service Banner indicates a family member was killed while serving in the Armed Forces.
Hope this helps explain.
