Raleigh NC, Patriot Rally Report
me | February 15, 2003 | mykdsmom

Posted on 02/15/2003 3:01:51 PM PST by mykdsmom

It's a GREAT day for a FReep. We had a fantastic turnout at our rally to support our troops. At our largest point we had 100 people. Not bad for having 5 days to organize.

Suprisingly most of the people that showed up were not FReepers but rather people that had seen our rally mentioned in the newspaper and/or heard it on TV. All free advertising that didn't cost us a dime. One attendee is in advertising for a local paper that the peace rally advertised in. The peace people took out 2 full page ads to promote their rally. She informed us that the going rate for one full page ad is $10,000. Wonder where that money came from?

We will be having a lot of new FReepers signing up after this rally based on the responses that we got from people.

FReepers that were there were Constitution Day, wimpycat and hubby, overtaxed, blackbag, Helms, ncweaver, Jimidallas, dstarr, JNW74, shaunnc, shapka, mattwilloughby and daughter, GOP Pat, mykdsmom. I apologize if I left anyone out, I really tried to talk to everyone to find out if they were FReepers or not.

dstarr and her veteran hubby came up from Fayetteville, we had 2 women come all the way from Wilmington which is about a 2 1/2 hour drive away. They just lurk on FR but hopefully they will sign up.

One father came and brought several children that are all homeschooled. This rally was part of teaching them about their country and the freedoms they enjoy by living here. I can't think of a better way to do it.

I was pleased to see the number of young college age students on our side. It really gives me hope for our future generation.

We thanked the police officers that were there and they thanked us in return for showing up. They were definately on our side. I asked one officer for an estimate of how many showed up on the pro-peace side. He claimed they were saying 7,000 but he estimated closer to 2000-3000 total. Only one arrest though so everyone was fairly well behaved.

We got the bull-horns fired up and had some fairly good hearted banter back and forth across the street.

I will post the pictures that I took and welcome anyone to add to this because I'm sure I left some things out.

The problem, I think, is self-absorption.

Yeah....probably. He's taking calls coming up but I have to go out and de-ice the car soon so I'll be ready when Congressman BillyBob comes on. I hate to break up a set. :)

Hello again everybody,
Since I am new to the board none of you will know me by "Subsonic", but I was with you all on Sat. and as far as being a patriot, everyday. Constitution Day loaned me a sign. I am tall and was wearing a black jacket. Usually I'm better prepared but I was working Sat. and didn't know about the counter-rally until reading the News and Desturber. I was lucky enough to be standing near the NC State guys and got to hear some very entertaining and witty stuff come from them. People around me might have noticed that I got angry when one of the lib's across the street asked "If you people think war is such a good idea, why don't you go over and fight it?" Several of us shouted back that we've already served our country and I added something about them being cowards. A whole block full of vertebrae and not one spine!
Constitution Day, I saw you wave at me driving by in my van later but didn't recognize you until it was to late to wave back (belated waving...). I was doing my best not to give the wacko's the satisfaction of reading their signs by looking straight ahead as I drove. Take care all,
Sub

I just wanted to let you know what was in The Fayetteville Observer. The article on the rally Saturday didn't appear until Monday. It was titled "Thousands in NC join war protests". I don't know why it took them so long to run the article. It was from The Associated Press. What was amazing is that our paper ran this article and a picture of my husband and myself. And we were protesting the protestors. The Fayetteville Observer is another one of the liberal papers. I was just glad too that my husband got to demonstrate against the sort of people who demonstrated back when he was in Vietnam.

I just saw on Fox News where apparently Saddam personally "Thanked" all the anti-War Protesters. I hope the scumbags are proud of themselves. They've just been thanked by a dictator who has gassed, tortured, and murdered his own people.

Hello Subsonic!

Yes, I remember you.
You were the guy in black who works for _________ (insert name of a certain telco company).

I'm glad you joined us on Saturday.
Did you see the comment by the NC State student who said his friends were there to meet girls? LOL!

As to your comment "A whole block full of vertebrae and not one spine", that is dead-on.
Good thing we now have a President who is unafraid to take on the bullies of the world, and damn the irrelevant naysayers.

Hehehe....I think that we and News 14 ticked off a few people. An article posted by monkeytime complaining about how News 14 "exaggerated" our numbers just got the big ZOT!

You may now resume your normal Freeping. It takes so little to amuse me and I thought I would share the joy. :)

I trust it will not be deleted just because it offers a different viewpoint

Does that mean that you'll post these pics on your website? I mean it's all in the spirit of fairness and all.

I couldn't find a link on their site either. I had to scan it in to send it in emails to some friends. I don't know how to load it onto here or I would put it up here for all to see.
