Operation Infinite FReep, Columbia, Mo. 02/15/03
Streets of Columbia | 02/15/03 | bluesagewoman, dogrobber

Posted on 02/15/2003 11:49:14 AM PST by bluesagewoman

The peaceniks had scheduled February 15th as their big day to protest the war. They failed to place an order for good weather. Though the anti-America crowd was very large, five Mid-Missouri Patriots gathered with umbrellas and warm clothing to try to counter the damage done to our country by weasel-tongued faux-pacifists.

One highlight of the morning was when an older woman came across the street to yell at DogRobber, calling him names like “moron” and “idiot” and praising the words and position of the Trifecta of Old Europe, France, Germany and Belgium. What was surreal was that she was FRENCH! Bretmilk could not resist and asked her if she spoke German and when she relied “No,” he said “your welcome.” Of course, being French, she didn’t even notice the import of his words. I guess you really cannot get a Frenchwoman’s attention unless you march into Paris with 10 Divisions. I suppose if we had gotten nasty with her she would have surrendered right there in the street. Always the gentleman, DogRobber was ready to loan her his white handkerchief (chivalry is not dead in Missouri).

As if we needed more entertainment, the peaceniks brought out their drums and maracas and did some strange dance steps (looking suspiciously like the old funky-chicken) as they encouraged each other to fall into line for their march to the courthouse one block away. Bret observed that the unfolding scene reminded him of the Lemming, that small brown furry rodent creature that is reputed to mass together in large chittering numbers and blindly follow their leaders off a cliff. Unfortunately, the Missouri River Bluffs are twenty miles out of town and these Lemmings didn’t seem to have the stamina to make it that far.

Although we were soaked to the bone, and our signs were limp with the letters dripping off, we left happy. Bret, his wife, and Prov, with Zip joining them, intend to do it all again in Jefferson City when the peaceniks there march to the Capital Building. Let’s hope the roads don’t freeze until after their travels, or is that travails? It is mental torture trying to deal with the peaceniks.

Oh, and the Capital Building is on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River! (High Lemming Risk?)

This is Missouri. If you don't like the weather, wait an hour.

Drippy letters.

Close-up of Bret's sign. See next picture for original
of the cartoon depicted on his sign.

John Darkow's cartoon in local paper last week.

They stayed dry until a postal employee made them move.

Lemming March.

Sometimes irony is not delicious.

France has a population of 54 million people, most of whom drink and smoke a great deal, drive like lunatics, are dangerously oversexed, and have no concept of standing patiently in line. The French people are in general gloomy, temperamental, proud, arrogant, aloof, and undisciplined; and those are their good points. Most French citizens are Roman Catholic, though you would hardly guess it from their behavior. Many people are communists, and topless sunbathing is common. Men sometimes have girls' names like Marie, and they kiss each other when they hand out medals. American travellers are advised to travel in groups and to wear baseball caps and colourful trousers for easier mutual recognition.

In general, France is a safe destination, though travelers are advised that, from time to time, it is invaded by Germany. By tradition, the French surrender more or less at once and, apart from a temporary shortage of Scotch whisky and increased difficulty in getting baseball scores and stock market prices, life for the visitor generally goes on much as before. A tunnel connecting France to Britain beneath the English Channel has been opened in recent years to make it easier for the Government to flee to London.

Thanks!

Hey, I just heard a blip from Tony Blair's speech...from yesterday I'm sure. I hope I got this right. I'm pretty sure.

He commented about the anti-Iraq protests, for people to keep one thing in mind. When they look at a crowd of protestors, whether it's 100, 1,000, 100,000 or even 1,000,000 - remember that it is LESS than the number of people that Saddam has murdered !

Now THERE's something to think about when looking at these idiots !

Thank you for pinging me to this thread. I don't know how I missed it. I've been dividing my time between FReeping and cooking today - I guess I can't do FReeping justice when I'm tied to the stove.

But now that I'm here...

BUMP for MISSOURI FReepers !!

Now I'll go back and wait for the snow to accumulate enough that I can go out and shovel it...

God Bless all the brave folks who took it to the streets across the USA today for Freedom !

I am laughing so hard at your descriptions of the anti-war fruitcakes. You have a way with words. I could just see them doing the funky chicken as they marched along.

What's with posts 8 and 13? Have we touched a nerve?

We survived the peaceniks rally this afternoon. They chickened out and went inside, we stayed outside in the wind and light sleet. I think today showed the pacifists' other side. They don't want violence unless it is directed at pro Americans. I had a bow legged wizened old man yell at me that I wanted to kill everyone. When I replied that it wasn't our side, it was Sad dumbs idea to kill innocent people. He objected to that statement so I had to get in a little dig and said that the Sad dumbs lovers wanted to kill people. He had a basic psychotic break and charged shouting "what did you say" over and over. So I told him and he screamed "Pardon me, pardon me" to which I responded he was pardoned although I wasn't Klintoon and he really got ticked. Then reason kicked in and he left. Kinda exciting moment.

Even though it was colder this PM than this morning's Columbia FReep, it wasn't as wet and nasty. Prov and Bret both thought the soaking rain was worse. Anyway, enough rambling. We had fun.

A special thanks to Bogeyman, Prov, Bretmilk and his wife for the twofers. Thank you all. Blue, Dogrobber thanks for standing out there on a couple hours sleep last night. I know our troops appreciate the support, I know that I, as a veteran, appreciate it.

I'll bet it was exciting. I am glad he calmed down enough to leave. Thanks to you all for being a voice for sanity down there. BTW, did the lemmings stay away from the bluff?

You should have told the French woman the only reason the French are afraid of war is because they've never won one.

LOL!!! Thanks for the ping. Good report and pics.

yep,but they weren't lemmings, they were chickens (or at least they had the chicken track signs) and stayed inside the capitol. It was too cold to protest outside. wimps!!
