RALLY NYC 2-15-2003 |

IM001078 to IM001082; Group picture at our original location hidden from sight @ 41st and 1st. The cops hid us way out of sight so nobody would know we were even in existence. IM001083 to IM001095; Under the leadership of our fearless Firebrand we went to the corner of 42nd street and 2nd avenue where we had an audience. It didn't last long, after 40 minutes of yelling at the unwashed the "higher ups" decided it was time for us to be put in the closet again and they made us go back to our original location hidden from view. IM001096 to IM001097; Back at our original location we mull our next move. IM001098: Sauropod with his custom made sign. IM001099 toIM001101; Curtis Sliwa gives the troops a 15 minute pep talk and speech. I have to talk to Curtis and convince him that if he ever wants to take a paycut, he should run for office. IM001102 to IM001104; Dutchy and Curtis pose for the camera. IM001105; Yours truly, Cacique and Curtis. IM001106 to IM001107; Curtis and RaceBannon. IM001108 to IM001113; We retire at McFadden's and have some drink and food after we decide there is little more we can do under the circumstances. If anyone wants to have the original 1 meg files to make 8x10 prints please freepmail me. I will write on a separate thread certain lessons learned from our interlude today. For one thing, we need to find out who those 1,000 pro Bush portesters at Columbus circle were and whether we can contact them and coordinate our activities. If we can do that on a nationwide basis even better. I hope all Freepers out there do some research and post your results. Anything anyone can find out about the rally at Columbus Circle will be welcomed. The left thrives in being united under umbrella organizations and bringing together as many disparate left organizations to achieve an end. We need to learn to do the same. I will post a separate thread on my observations.

Great report.
I have to wonder if why you and the other Freepers were kept in the closet and out of sight by have been due to the new mayor of NYC?

I agree with your statements above. The left is so damn organized, it's sickening. Imagine the impact if we had known about those 1,000 like-minded counter-protestors at Columbus Circle. For future rallies, it could be far more effective to plan strategically and come forward as a united front with groups like this, rather than in fragmented small groups.
GREAT photos, BTW! Wonderful to see Curtis Sliwa at the FR rally... so glad we've got him on OUR side.

Thanks for the Ping. Great Work All!
"we need to find out who those 1,000 pro Bush portesters at Columbus circle were and whether we can contact them and coordinate our activities."
If I might suggest: make up FreeRepublic.com business cards (cut-up sheets of 8.5 x 11 paper) and write your screen names on the back, and give them to as many people as you can introduce yourselves to at these rallys.

Confessions:
Yes, I wasn't there.
Yes, I planned to go.
Yes, it was the weather: we had to dart up to Vermont and try to get back (which we then gave up on doing) due to snow concerns. By the time of the early morning Saturday forecast, I was already saying to myself "no way." It's just that I have had to fit too much in this weekend.
I OWE YOU GUYS ONE FREEP!! I'll be there next time, I promise. The weather strangeness forecast for laster this weekend causes all kinds of collateral/planning/logistic problems.
Isn't sliwah THE BEST SPEAKER!
Well, confessions concluded, a BIG BUMP to NYC. GOOD JOB!
